Another poorly played one. Random guess on two and mistake on three meant I placed nothing. The fourth guess would definitely place all three letters but it left me with ARBOR, ARDOR, and ARMOR with a one in three chance of failing. I went for the sleuth word and a guaranteed six.
Oh, shit, I didn’t see armor at all. And it hasn’t been an answer yet. (Arbor has, which I remembered because a lot of people guessed ardor when it was an answer and that stood out to me.) The only reason I think of the word ardor is because of D&D – specifically DDO, where it was the name of an item effect that boosts healing spells – which is a context that should have made armor come to mind as well. And if I had thought of it, I absolutely would have guessed armor before ardor.
So by all rights I should have gotten a 5 instead of 4. You know how they say it’s better to be lucky than good? Sometimes it’s better still to be dumb.
UNTIL → Strikeout. What’s a good second word? R & S still out there, along with A E & O. Scramble 'em and try AROSE → Oooh. Let’s see. AR??O goes nowhere. AR?O? ends up with a duplicate R, either ARROW or AR[BMD]OR. What else? ARROZ - loanword, so probably not. Need to try a non-ARROW word, or could end up with a 6, so ARDOR
Fun to figure this one out; even more fun to hit on that 1/3 chance at a 3.
This one was rather fun, and feeling like I missed a 3 by only one letter makes me feel pretty good about it.
After 2, I had 3 letters, but they were all yellow, and only one of them was a consonant. (With 2 vowels and only one consonant, there’s just more possibilities than the other way around.) Playing around with the various arrangements, I came up with Arbor, Foray, and Radio, which had been used already, and Ardor, Armor, Razor, and Vapor, which hadn’t. (I totally missed Borax, Favor, and Major, which had been used, and Arrow and Mayor, which hadn’t.)
Not only would Armor eliminate all but one of the four possibilities I knew about, but it was the word I liked best for being the solution. I was close! And it would have taken me down to just one possibility, even including the two I didn’t see, so I’d have gotten a 4 any which way.
Hmm, well, I guess I’m having a good day compared to some of you!
Wordle 867 3/6*
IRATE
GROAN
ARDOR
Placing the ‘R’ early helped a lot. After my second try, I had it winnowed down to ARDOR, ARMOR and ARBOR. There was also ARROW, but I didn’t see that. ARBOR had already been used, so it was a coin flip. I’m a big fan of ARDOR. I picked that. Yayy!
Wordle used and abused me today. And manga added insult to injury. Not only was it a bad guess, but I was annoyed that that was the answer. And then it wasn’t.
I thought about going with RANCH on 2, which would have placed my yellows from 1. But that wasn’t going to get me any better than a 4, and quite possibly worse.
