TARDY → I think this is four days in a row I’ve gotten one placed letter on the opening guess. So, two letters, two comcons
TONES → TN??? goes nowhere, of course. Out of I or U, I should try the former if I can’t do both. TUNIC doesn’t move the N; TULIP has no N, so it doesn’t work. Can’t work an L in, so what other consonants should I try? I need to
THINK
The G option never occured to me. Oddly enough, after the first guess, my guesses mimicked the Scoredle guesses exactly.

SLANT
CHORE
DUMPY
QUEUE - could’ve also been FUGUE, which I didn’t see until afterwards
Usually, my SLANT/CHORE combo turns up enough info to focus on the solution by my third guess. (Sometimes, like yesterday, I can do that after SLANT, but that’s less common.) But when it doesn’t, I have two similar possible third words: GIMPY and DUMPY.
I’ve come to the opinion that GIMPY is usually better: D is slightly more common than G in Wordle solutions, but I is much more common than U. But one thing I’ll ask myself that can tip the balance is: is there room for it to be a Q-word? (A Q-word is really a QU-vowel word, that’s most of a 5-letter word.) In this case, the answer was obviously Yes, but the solution was the only Q-word that would work. So I went with DUMPY, and if that U turned green with no other hits, QUEUE was going to be my guess.
This breaks my string of five 3s in a row, but I’m perfectly happy with today’s 4.

THINK → Clean whiff. With N & T out, I can afford to try three vowels and only two comcons
ROUSE → Good choice. A is still out there - but do I need it? I see one word that uses it, so I’ll try
VAGUE → And for a second, I kicked myself for not trying VALUE. I didn’t seen anything here, though, so I put it down for a while. When I came back, I thought “what if I put Q before U”, didn’t see anything, but it came to me when I thought “what if there’s another U?”
QUEUE
FUGUE would have been a possibility if I had tried my alternate third guess, so I’m glad I took the path to the solution that I did.
I’d cheerfully wait in the fudge queue, but I’d avoid the irate scone.
Been a very busy week. I’ve been playing but not posting. My recent scores:
880 (TRUST) - 4
881 (TARDY) - 3
882 (THINK) - 3
Huh. Three T words in a row. Hadn’t realized that until now.
