SHIFT → OK, nice start. TH- is gone, so CH-. Move the I over one, could be CHOIR, CHAIR or CHAIN - anything else? OK, any of these should tell the solution, unless I missed something, so I’ll go with the middle one
CHAIR → For a second there, I thought I had a two.

Today’s initial cutdown (per Scoredle) was to 16 possibles - but only four of 'em were really likely. Seemed like not as good a start as yesterday, but turned out to be much better.

CHAIN → Where does the H go? And how can I guess two vowels along with it? I played around with a lot of -TH- possibliities (but I didn’t see OTHER, fortunately) until I saw
HOTEL → and putting the E at the end led quickly to
HOUSE
HORDE and HORSE
were also possible. Fortunately the second guess had me thinking about Monopoly rather than the Mongols.
