I had Sulky on my list and thought it to be a little too…not that common? It’s not totally uncommon, but it just felt off to me. So I went with Skull instead - there were several words that had double letters, and almost all of the words had similar letters, so I just had to choose one. I’ll take my 4 though and be glad it wasn’t worse.

HORDE
Credit for this 3 goes to the previous answers list. Thanks to the my DDO days I immediately saw rogue/rouge, but both of those have been answers before. Then I saw forge/gorge, but both of those have been answers as well. The yellow O in third position eliminated all the broke/drove style possibilities with the terminal E. I was at a bit of a loss, actually, until I finally saw horde. As far as I can tell that was the only solution left.

HORDE - could also have been “FORTE”
SULKY → Clean miss. ROAST/HEIST are out because S is gone. Two vowels and three common consonants would be good…
TENOR → Not bad. Thought about ?ORE? here, but found no good possibilities, so tried the terminal E with…
PROVE → So O is probably in second. In which case R is hard to fit in 4th, and with ROGUE/ROUGE out it’s probably third. ?OR?E, but not HORSE, but it could be…

Scoredle says there were 25(!) words left after my third guess, four of which (FORCE/FORGE/GORGE/OCHRE) I’m actually familiar with. Though OCHRE really would have thrown me for a loop.

Bah. My streak of fives continues. GORGE was my first instinct at three, but I decided against the repeat letter. In retrospect, FORGE would have eliminated both GORGE and FORCE, but honestly I thought I was down to a coin flip, having missed HORDE and BORNE. So it could have been worse, I suppose.
