I’m sorry, EllisDee. But I’m confident you’re going to get there very soon – and stay there!

TRICE
ROUTE
UTTER
After TRICE, I knew that ROUTE couldn’t be the answer, but I wanted to try for an O and a U and couldn’t think of another option with those 2 letters
And yet another example of why I hate WordleBot: it rated me at 57 for skill because of another hypothetical answer that wasn’t the solution anyway:
“Although ROUTE left only one possible solution, some of this was luck: If the solution had been OTHER, there still would have been two words to choose from. But you’ve narrowed it down to one possible solution. You should solve the puzzle on your next turn.”
I don’t know why I bother with WordleBot! As @Aspenglow says, it must be Stockholm syndrome.

This is one where I should have recognized the trap and gone through the options systematically. I tried to do it starting at the top of the keyboard but got bored and gave up when I found an option that fit. I think this may have been the only option left, though.
I had 15 valid words to choose from after my first three guesses. I simply picked one which re-ordered my two letters and had three others i hadn’t already selected - and it was the correct word!

UTTER
For a word with three common letters, one a double, that was a really tough one to guess.

This was a pretty fun Wordle for a 4. Obviously after 2 guesses, the most likely scenarios were --A–E-- or --E–A-- with the L in one of the blank spots. I kept on thinking of words with L at both ends, like LABEL, LAPEL, and LEGAL. Since the first two of those had been used already, I went with LEGAL on the third guess, and after that it was a gimme for the 4.

I’m embarrassed to even post this. I forgot to use the L at three. Then, after slapping myself on the forehead, I forgot the L again at four! What an idiot.
At least that got my vowels placed. HAZEL and LABEL were also left, so this could have been an even bigger clusterf@ck, I suppose.

I don’t post my results but I do follow this thread because I find reading people’s thought process as they work through each day’s Wordle interesting. I recently subscribed to NYT Games so that I could do the Spelling Bee and the crossword. A side benefit is being able to use Wordlebot to analyze my performance. I quickly discovered a couple of things. First, my usual opening word, AROSE, is good but not as good as Wordlebot’s SLATE. I have switched to SLATE.
Second, I had been mostly playing in “self-imposed hard mode”, where you aren’t actually in hard mode but you follow the rules of hard mode anyway (except when it’s advantageous to deviate from them, such as when you have something like _IGHT and you could run out of guesses before finding the answer if you play in hard mode). Now I play like Wordlebot plays. I play SLATE first. The second word is chosen based on the results from SLATE with the goal of narrowing the possibilities down to as few words as possible. I’ll discuss how that worked for me today in the spoiler. It will be familiar to most, I think, but how much more effective it is than guessing one of the possibilities was surprising to me.
I played SLATE and got yellow A L and E. I then started listing words that it could be: LABEL, LAGER, LEGAL, REGAL, etc. I took note of which new letters (not A, E, or L) appeared the most in these words. The letters were B, G, N, R. So I played BRING. Green B and yellow G. So now I know all of the letters and there’s only one possible answer. An easy 3. In the past I would have played a word that could actually be the answer and which I thought would narrow down the remaining possibilities the most if it wasn’t the answer. In this case that would probably have been REGAL or LAGER, which probably would have led to a 3 also but often leaves me needing at least one more guess to narrow things down further. Playing like Wordlebot and not worrying about the chance of getting it in 2 leads to a lot more 3s.
I’m in with the 4s today. Cool with it. ![]()
