SLAIN → Which isn’t a bad guess. N pretty much has to be in 4th, and I think we’ve only got one vowel, and I haven’t tried R yet, so…
DRANK → ?RAND, could be G or B, go with alpha order…

Too many words after TRANS (7) to start guessing for it. Unable to come up with a word containing four of the eight consonants in those seven words, I resorted to using an anagram generator. Turns out, there isn’t a word with four of those consonants. So I looked with the most common three, and found KEDGE. (It means to drag a boat by its anchor.)
Which, fortunately, gave me both the letters I needed. A hard-fought par.
