BREAD, BREAK, DREAM, and WREAK had already been used, leaving a coin toss between DREAD and FREAK.
Did I break the bread in my dream? Or was I in dread of what the freak could wreak?

Very stupid! After four I should have gone through the options and tried a sleuth word. As it was, I has to choose between DUMPY and JUMPY and I got lucky.

Well, there goes that streak. Never had both starting words yield nothing before.
NOVEL → Whiff. A, I and the last three WoFcons make
STAIR → Double whiff! Better try U & Y both this time out, and what can I make of the consonants that are left?
BUMPY → Oh, so close. Let’s see… D or J?
DUMPY → Darn it. J (I hope)
JUMPY
H or P were also possibilities, per Scoredle. Both seem rather bogus to me. Double-whiff followed by 4/5 seemed pretty awesome (until I saw @Rebo doing that one better - congratulations!) Scoredle gets it in 4 with some better guessing in the trap.

Badly played.
I should have abandoned hard mode.
I should have tried the terminal Y sooner.
I shouldn’t have wasted two spots on a double letter.
Scoredle gets a five from my (randomly generated) opening word, so maybe I shouldn’t be so hard on myself.

Lost the coin toss on 4. It happens. Not bad for blanking on my first two words, which contain the 7 most frequent consonants and the 3 most frequent vowels in Wordle solutions. Looks like this is the ninth time the Wordle solution would have blanked both my first two words, and I was actually playing that two-word starting combo for eight of those instances. The others: BUDDY, BUGGY, GIDDY, GUMMY, GUPPY, JIFFY, MUMMY, and VIVID.
I don’t intentionally play hard mode, but I’ve decided to start starring the times I play in a manner consistent with hard mode.
