"Wordle," a strangely compelling word game (Part 3)

SCOWL → Another whiff. I decided to try E & A and the remaining three WoFcons, and tried several mixes until I hit on one that might be a bit bogus but got me the letters I want
EARNT → Don’t judge me! Thought about U or I for another vowel, but ended up trying a Y to go with another couple consonants
TYPED → Lucky pickup on the Y. Still three letters, nothing placed after three. Y should go to the end, then I have a word that at least will place the T
JETTY → I had to sit here and think about it, then it came to me when I got back to it
HEFTY

Scoredle at least liked my fourth guess. It also takes a bogey, and reveals something interesting about its algorithm in doing so. After the third guess, Scoredle is down to three possibles, two of which differ by only one letter - both of which are IMHO bogus. Instead of trying for the one “real” word still alive, Scoredle apparently evaluates each at a equal possibility of being the answer. I had often wondered if the Scoredle algorithm evaluates all possibles equally or if it favors real answers (those from the solutions list) in the endgame; it appears now that the former is true.

If you want to see what I’m seeing, go to Scoredle, type in today’s solution and then yesterday’s solution as your start word, then type in Scoredle’s “best guess to make next” and look at the situation before the fourth guess.

Was it risky to play a Z at three? Sure, but I was really feeling that Y, and ZESTY was as good a guess as any… and it led me right to the answer. No regrets.

I’ve been playing but forgetting to post here lately. Scored a three on Monday (BOAST), and a very bad five yesterday (SCOWL).

SLANT
STRAY

The used words made a huge difference here. STEAD and STEAM had been used, so STEAK was the only STEAx word I had to worry about, with STEAL being eliminated by my starting word. Similarly with STRAP and STRAW leaving STRAY as the only STRAx word in play.

SAUTE had also been used, leaving me with SATAY, SATYR, SITAR, and SUTRA in addition to the aforementioned STEAK and STRAY. Between the Y, the R, and the positioning of the A and T, I was going to be no worse than a 3 if I went with STRAY, so I did.

At first I berated myself for not focusing on WoFcons, but there were more P words than T words, so I don’t feel too bad about this par.
I might be falling back into a four rut.

I’m guessing wordlebot doesn’t see previous answers. From that perspective, your 2 looks like a successful 50/50 coin toss, assuming those were indeed the only two answers.
