Surprised I got the par. Scoredle also guesses the U late; it gets hung up on a three-possibles situation after its third, and guesses wrong in an attempt to avoid a possible six which leaves it with a bogey.

QUILL → Pairs well with an O. Ooh, could be the ?OUND trap. FOURS would KO or verify three of the trap words, but I’d really like to try the T here as well, so
TOURS → And a good thing too. Terminal-T could mean DOUBT or ?OUNT (C, F, M), penultimate T could be ?OUTH (C, M, Y), I’ll try an initial M to give me good coverage

Obviously lucky to start off with three greens! And it helped even more that the unknown middle letter had to be a vowel. So I went through the alphabet with the first letter: blent, blint, blont, blunt, clent, clint, clont, clunt…and the possibilities were BLUNT, FLINT, GLINT. FLINT had been used, I liked BLUNT better, and so I won the metaphorical coin toss.
