STARE
TONIC
QUILT
FIFTH
WIDTH
Out of inferior habit I made only guesses that fit the clues, but still asked 12 distinct letters – 11 of them very common – in the first three words. Thowing in the Q was a foolish quirk. PITHY would have been better and might have led directly to a Four. Instead at least five words were still possible after QUILT.
Looking at others’ old reports, I see that Chefguy and Bullitt – both of whom get good scores
– often ask ten different letters in the first two clues, even when there were hits on the first word.
This is probably smarter than hoping for Victory-in-Two.
Here’s one where Bullitt got FOUR yellow hits on the first two clues, but still asked five new letters on Clue 3. This ploy was vindicated when he won on Clue 4.
Crap. I didn’t realize that there was another poster a day ahead and got spoiled. I guess I will make it a par so I don’t have to ruin my streak.

STEAK
COLIN
UPDRY
WIDTH
Yes my strategy typically starts with 3 words that:
(a) use 15 unique letters, and
(b) have not yet been the Wordle
For the 15 unique letters I look for words that draw from the most frequently used letters, SEAROILTNUDCYPMHGBKFWVZXJQ.
And then if the words haven’t yet been the Wordle, there’s a chance I can solve the puzzle in 1 or 2 guesses.
My current 3 starting words are somewhat nonsensical because words 2 and 3 are silly words not likely to be the Wordle:
STEAK, COLIN, and UPDRY. See what I mean? Truly nonsensical.
Prior to these my 3 starter words were LEAST, BOUND, and PRIVY, until LEAST became the Wordle on 2025-09-01:

SPOIL → Slow start. I can cover the other WoFcons and add an E with
NITRE → T is nice. I can check two possible places for it with
TIGHT → Neither, but I picked up the H, which is good. So it looks like a TH ending, and it can’t be NINTH, so I’ll try
FIFTH → Oh, I should have looked harder, and tried
WIDTH
Coulda -woulda-shoulda had a par. Scoredle makes a guess using the middle letter on its second guess, and then places it on the third, making its par a tap-in.
