Wow! I was just going for vowels!

PLANE → That’s a pretty good start. I played around with S, R and T but couldn’t find a word that used all three, so I tried
CARTE → And got nothing. But, with a likely A???E, I figured I needed to try another vowel, so I went with
ABOVE → Which at least placed the A for certain. But it’s getting late, and I need more letters, so I went with I for the vowel and also got to try the S with
ASIDE → So there is an S, and probably a U, for which I immediately saw
ABUSE → but that was wrong, since I had already tried the B (in that same position, too!) so I really screwed up my shot at a bogey

Poor endgame play means I take another six. Scoredle, on the other hand, checks out a different set of two WoFcons with its second guess, then sinks a 50-50 putt with the third for a birdie. Masterfully played, sir…
