My bogey streak continues.
Hitting the EA combo seemed like a good thing, as did avoiding the _EACH trap.
But once the R showed up, there were three possible words left, and yep, I went through all of ‘em…

I see that two others have already reported Two on #1577
This dampens my feeling of glory somewhat.
After SLATE – my new starting word – I made a list of the words I
could think of that fit that clue.
peach, ready, reach, weary, heard ALL appeared on the wordle-past-answers list.
rearm and beany work but seem like possible omissions from NYT’s ordinary word list.
I next thought of beard and – since fitting words seemed hard to come by –
entered that without further ado.
Is it unethical to use the wordle-past-answers list?
Wheelz, posting just before me, might have scored Two if he’d used that list.
I’ll bet that over half of the words on the word list have been used already.
Expect NY Times to announce, before too long, that it’s reusing old words

WOUND → Thought it was going to be a whiff. Past tense verb? Well, I’ll try one of them, to exercise A & E and two WoFcons
LASED → Not a past tense verb, but it looks like A & E go together. Last two WoFcons come off the table with
TREAD → ?EARD, I’ll trust the B

Nice par. Scoredle also makes a tap-in par, rather than my 50-50. Scoredle’s algorithm has an affinity for the solution; with my first two guesses, it starts calling for the solution immediately - so a hybrid approach might have meant a birdie. Also, from its own start, it wins with a two - impressive!

BEARD - dumb luck strikes again
Different people have different feelings about that. This thread has no official rules about things like that, thank goodness, so you’re free to do whatever you personally feel comfortable with.
I’d been expecting that for a year (I really expected it to be announced at the beginning of this year), and I’m past being surprised that it hasn’t happened yet; I just don’t think about it anymore. It’ll have to happen sometime, unless they just drop the game altogether, which I doubt they’d do.
There were just over 2300 words on Josh Wardle’s original solutions list. The NYT may have added a few words, but they’ve also definitely subtracted some, e.g. PENIS. So we’ve probably used about 2/3 of the solutions list already. My starting word hasn’t been used yet, and at this point I’m rooting for them to not start re-using solutions until after I get my 1, dammit!
Personally, I wouldn’t do it, but everyone is allowed to have fun in their own way in these games, I think.

SLATE
GROIN
FUROR
FORUM
After GROIN I spent a few minutes thinking of six words that fit
(FORUM was not one of them.) The three with W and Y were all
on the already-used list. The three with double-R and U were not.
Asking RUMOR would have been a blunder since JUROR and FUROR
would give the same response. I preferred FUROR to JUROR because
it was much more likely I’d overlooked an F word than a J word.
I hope nobody reads my boring treatises for each Wordle I play.
Are they a symptom of autism, or of some other psychological disorder?
