TREND
SAUCY
GRUFF
I feel color-blind and might not have been so impertinent (“saucy”)
if I’d appreciated that the R was green, not yellow.
But with the U turning green also, I got lucky.

COLIC → A starting whiff - I was hoping for a single C. You know the drill
STARE → That’s not much from a good first word. I thought about RUNNY since it covered the remaining vowels and WoFcon, but wanted better consonant coverage, so
RUMPY → If that U is alone, it should be in the middle, which would put the R second and try that last N via
DRUNK → What’s left? G & F? Maybe I need a double consonant after all
GRUFF
This puzzle developed slowly and then made itself apparent all at once - last guess was basically a tap-in. Scoredle takes a similar tack with its first three guesses, but finds a better third guess and finishes with a par.

Dang, I was leaning heavily toward GRUFF at two, then talked myself into thinking GRUNT was more likely.
Still, I’m quite happy with the extremely fortunate starting word and subsequent birdie.
