Discussion of how the the re-using of solutions is going so far:
Other than the very intentional reuse of CIGAR on Monday, none of the solutions since then have been previous solutions. 0 for 4.
That’s a small sample but stiil, if we’ve already used up at least 70% of the words on the solutions list as it currently exists, and if we suppose the NYT is choosing solutions at random from the entire solutions list, then the chance that we’d get all new solutions these past four days is less than 1%.
I don’t know how they’re playing this, but I’m not throwing away my used words list just yet.

Given my starting word, this is a repeat of last Saturday, when ALLOT was the solution. That combo of greens and yellows leaves nine possibilities, which break down nicely into three groups of 3: (1) ALLOT, ALOFT, ALERT; (2) BLEAT, CLEAT, PLEAT; (3) BLOAT, FLOAT, GLOAT. After last Saturday, all but BLEAT, CLEAT, and BLOAT had been used.
Assuming we’re still not re-using (see my discussion of this in last night’s post), any of those last three is equally good at guaranteeing a 3. My thought was also that if they are finally re-using, then BLEAT and BLOAT are equally good (actually, on re-examination, BLOAT is slightly better) as the best choice to guarantee a 4 and up the odds for a 3 or better.
Anyhow, I went with BLEAT and got lucky for the 2. But if they’re randomly picking from the entire solutions list, the odds were > 400 to 1 against getting 5 new solutions in the 5 Wordles since the intentional choice of CIGAR as Monday’s solution. Maybe someone at the NYT forgot to flip the switch and pick randomly from all the solutions, whether they’ve been used or not? I don’t know, but until they re-use another previous solution, I’m going to keep on keeping my used words in mind.
Nicely done.
Added:
I don’t maintain a used words list but I had been referring to one at ➜ Past Wordle answers: Archive of previous words | Rock Paper Shotgun ■ . But since Monday I stopped referring to it.
Maybe I shouldn’t stop.

I had the same starting word with the same pattern a few days ago. Few enough that i remembered what the wordlebot had said would have been better than the second word i picked. So i tried its suggestion, and bingo! Only one possibility remained.

Second six in four days. Combined with yesterday’s loss, probably my worst four-day stretch of Wordle ever. At least, in the “misery loves company” section, Scoredle also hit the same trap and also used all three guesses to find it. The difference is that it started on its third guess rather than fourth, so it finished with a bogey.
