I got funky with my second guess, so I really didn’t expect the third guess to nail it. It was pretty surprising when it lit up all green.
SLATE
BANJO
UMBRA
Yeh. It actually came to me pretty fast, but that’s unusual. I’m only familiar with the word because I love astronomy and deal daily with creating realistic shadows in the CGI work I do, which helps if you understand how shadows are cast. But I agree that it’s not in most people’s daily vocab, and was surprised to see it was the solution today.

BUDGE → That’s an an usual pair for the carryover. I’d like to try an A and a couple of WoFcons, since the carryover didn’t elminate any of them, but I can try
ABUTS → So I did pick up the A, but missed on the WoFcons. I’m not getting anywhere with the vowels together, but if I separate them, U must be first, so let’s try
UNBAR → Should have tried URBAN. But either way, that A must go on the end… so I’m seeing
UMBRA
URBIA was also cited as a possible for the final guess, but that’s IMHO bogus - although, given my second and third guesses, I’m one to talk. Scoredle makes a great followup - the eliminations it gets leave the same pair of possibles as I have after three, and it converts the birdie put smartly. Though if I had made the same followup as Scoredle, I probably would have been casting around for the solution for a long time before I figured it out, so that may be for the best.

What does “promise” mean? Yes, wordle was designed to use words most people know, and i routinely use that fact in playing it. I know today’s weird, but wondered if it was common enough to be a wordle solution.
There are a lot of obscure words you are allowed to guess but that can’t be the answer. Sometimes, wordlebot says to me, “That word was a good choice, but I’m not allowed to use it, because it’s uncommon.”
