I thought WAVER was more likely than FAKER, but FAKER at 4 guaranteed no worse than a 5, while if I’d gone with WAVER and been wrong, I could have wound up with a 6. I decided to play it safe.
I was between BAKER, WAGER, and WAVER for the third guess and figured WAVER seemed the most Wordle-y of them. The NYT analysis said that there were still 16 words to choose from at that point.
That’s gotta be one of their highest averages ever. It’s especially impressive to get an average that high, considering AIUI they don’t include the fails in the average in any way.
I’m too lazy to go back and see what the average was for PARER.
ETA: IMHO they should include the fails, averaging them in as 7’s. Of course that’s inaccurate because some of the fails wouldn’t have gotten it on guess 7 either, but would be more accurate than leaving them out altogether.
DOWDY → Well, that’s something. Nice to pick up a rarer consonant with the carryover. A, E and two WoFcons, stat! WEARS → Wow. I can rotate the letters around to the left and try WREAK → If I rotate to the left again, all I see is WAREZ, uncommon and slangy. Time for a new strategy. -ER ending, A after the W, first word I see is WAVER
There were between three and five other valid possibles, so calling this a lucky par fits the bill. I’m surprised I didn’t see the T, as that would have been a key WoFcon, but would have left me with my second bad trap and (likely) loss in a row. I’m glad once I saw the word I did, I didn’t… well, you know. Scoredle triggers the trap on its third guess, and converts with a bogey, also with three to five possible valids remaining.
Came in under the average, anyway.
A fail was not out of the question, with WADER and WAXER (unlikely but not impossible) still on the table. So I’ll take it.
Today: I won the coin toss; I got very lucky in this game; my Wordle streak continues and it is now 364.
