MOVER → Whiff. (Lotta carryover whiffs lately.) With O and E gone, I should try A & I, along with 3 of the 4 WoFcons left
SLAIN → Feels like we need another vowel. I, Y, or a second A? I’ll try Y, and the first thing I see is
LACKY → but I really should have tried TALLY. Ah well. And now I hit a wall. So where should the Y go? I come up with lots of nonwords, but eventually I try the Y in second and I see

Scoredle agreed with my second thought about my third guess. I think it would have made the eventual answer easier to find, and Scoredle agrees - only two words left after that third guess rather than five (four bogus) after my guess. Scoredle ends up with a tap-in bogey, it’s a little less lucky with its followup than I was.

My experience was similar to @RTFirefly’s (though I didn’t work it out on paper).
This was a tough word, but not an especially tricky solve, if that makes sense. Good progress on each guess and a satisfying light bulb moment.

Usually, i use tools to help me solve these. I’m not very good at anagraming, and the part i enjoy is the “restricted mastermind”, not the “thinking of possible words”. But today i looked at the information after my first two guesses and thought, “that’s a word, i bet it’s the only one.”
(Then i wondered if I’d jumped to conclusions and just gotten lucky. But wordlebot ages that was the only answer.)

You’re better than I. After 2 it looks like we had the same letters but I did not (or, could not) draw the same conclusion as you.
I thought the L wouldn’t be at the end, so it had to be at the start. And after that there aren’t a lot of options.
Like I said you’re better than I. I didn’t even try to figure that out. I used a tool and that led me home with a 3.

Once I wrote down the legal placements of the L and T, the solution jumped out at me quickly, even before TRAIL (already used, #1339) did. It could have also been TRAWL which I didn’t see, but as Wordle #38, it was a candidate for reuse, so I got lucky there.
