AMEND → That’s not bad. I’ll try a couple of WoFcons and a vowel… and try as I could to find a really good O-word, I ended up seeing one with a terminal Y
NASTY → At lteast I placed a letter, very productively. I’d really like to try that O now, and I see a word that will do it, though it won’t knock out the L, but anyway
BACON → C is a nice pickup, and the N must go in the middle now. -ANCE and -ANCY endings are out. Could be PANIC, if an I, or if a second A, could be

RANCH and four bogus words with the same ending were also possible. My followup was a respectable 27/480, and the third guess was 2/71, though ironically the answer was 7/7, so from there Scoredle would have gone the distance. I also want to comment on the synergy of guesses 3 and 4. Scoredle’s followup is one letter off of the solution, so it ends up with a solid birdie.

CANAL → No wasted A - and one placed, and another letter. I thought about words that might hit on two, for a while - be nice to get two eagles in a week - but then just started guessing stuff with two WoFcons and hit on
ANTAS → So placed the A and (implicitly) the N. Looking at A??AN, it still took me a while to see
AVIAN
APIAN was also a possible, but less common and maybe bogus - every other possible after the carryover was definitely bogus. So a little more thought might have gotten me another two. Scoredle does get a two, hitting the solution on its followup. The word always makes me think of IP networking.
