SPEAR → OK, that’s an interesting start. Could there be a second E? Probably the best bet on another vowel, considering where the E is. LEENT is not a word, so I’ll have to try a non-WoFcon
ELECT → Good guess on the consonant, but here I just got stuck. Went to bed, got up, listened to a podcast about eastern Europe and realized it had to be
CHECK
It turns out the start word is a really good one for today’s solution! Scoredle also finishes with a birdie, though the algorithm had four non-bogus words to choose from.

I thought I’d saved par after chasing the U all over the board, but Wordle’s British roots popped up to deny me.

CHECK → One and only one C, unplaced. I’ll go hard for the WoFcons, which means only one vowel next
SCANT → Trap? Or just trappish? Either way, need some vowels stat
SCOUR → SCRU, could be SCRUB or SCRUM. I’ll trust the B
SCRUB → Darn.
SCRUM
This one may separate those who check the used words list from those who don’t, to a certain extent. But hey, I did better than Scoredle, which went the distance for a double bogey and showed that it doesn’t check the used word list either.

In my case it would have worked out to a 4 either way: since I got the yellow R as well as C on 2, it was down to SCRIP, SCRUB, and SCRUM for me at that point, and I’d have gone with SCRUB on 3 which would have told me which of the others was the solution.
