Guess four is a little late for a sleuth word. But with five possible words and three guesses left, it had to be done to avoid a fail.

NAVEL → OooohK. There are three WoFcons left; I can add another vowel. O? Turns out I could have tried TORES, but didn’t see that (or any other O word) and went with
RITES → Which looks like the start of an ?O?ER trap. CORER, anyone? Ugh. So I thought about a lot of words and figured, if that trap is sprung, my best word to have picked would be
BOWER → but there was no O, and hence no trap, so now I’m figuring double E, and as I can see CREE[DKP] figure I’d better try
CREED → And with B gone that leaves
GREED
FREED was also out there, and would have gotten me a six. Scoredle gets it in four, with four non-bogus words in the final set of possibles, by hitting the solution with its first trap guess. Lucky day for the algorithm!

PREEN (Okay, probably ?REED. CREED, FREED, GREED.)
GREED. (I guessed right.)

CRANE
HOIST - vowel hunting; an ‘eu’ combination is unlikely, so double ‘e’?
BREED - verbs are historically not a good choice, so I’ll go with

I thought I got luckier than I did - only SPITE, SMITE, and SUITE remained.

GREED → One and only one E, unplaced. That has some value, right? So now I can go with the ultimate good first guess second…
SLATE → Wow. I can see SMITE/SMOTE, SPITE, don’t think NYT would use SHITE, can’t see much else. SMITE would match one letter of either other option, so
SMITE → Must be
SPITE
It could have been SUITE as well. Alas, but no harm done. Scoredle works the exact same sequence from my start, so not much comparison commentary for today.
