Is it true the solutions never end in “s”?
There are plenty of solutions that end in S. For instance, FLOSS (Wordle #31), CRASS (67), ABYSS (126), REBUS (196), etc.
What you won’t see is plurals formed by adding an S or ES to the end of a singular noun. That’s a stated rule, IIRC.
Also, an unstated rule that’s held up so far is that there aren’t any verbs that add an S for the third person singular only (e.g. I/we/you/they blow but he/she/it blows).

Guessed wrong on 3. C’est la vie.
what about aches ?
thanks for clarification
Not sure what the question is, it’s one of a number of words that I’d expect would be excluded for both reasons.
so if I am reading this correctly
aches could be a legit guess word.
but never a solution word.

Yeppers. As originally constructed by Josh Wardle, there were 14855 acceptable guesses, but just over 2300 words on his solutions list. So there are several times as many legit guesses as possible solutions. And those ‘s’ and ‘es’ plurals and third person singulars are all legit guesses. As well as a metric ton of words so obscure that this bookworm has never encountered them.
