Yeah, I see the ad is still here. “Fighting Ignorance Since 1973…” How 'bout start by not contributing to it. I can’t stay on a site that knowingly promotes something that has no purpose other than duping folks. “Straight Dope”…unless bullshit pays the bills. This site has lost all credibility in my eyes. Please delete my account.
This stuff takes some time to deal with. Your patience is appreciated.
That could make for a new catchy slogan: “Straight Dope, Fighting Ignorance Since 1973, but letting Bullshit pay the bills.”
Best part of these scammers posting here though, is that they should get little takers in these parts. I think most would still like to see them go though.
So, Marley, does that mean you guys are dumping all the rest of the misleading and inaccurate ads? :innocent eyelash flutter:
Doesn’t “misleading and inaccurate” describe on some level pretty much every single advertisement in existence?
I’m not sure I can remember any ad from SDMB that didn’t obviously lead to a scam; maybe there are ads for dating sites in some of the dating threads. (And I guess some of the “earn a degree online” ads are arguably not total scams).
If you don’t understand the difference between typical advertising and the sort of grossly misleading ads you often find here, I’m not sure what else I can say to you.
I’ve seen some for Jimmy John’s and the Raffe. Those are the ones I can recall off the top of my head; I’ve been a paid member long enough now that I don’t remember more. The vast majority, however, are trash.
But, of course, it couldn’t possibly be more cost-effective to set up ads to things that SDMB readers might actually have an interest in. Or to sell merch that looks like it’s designed to be worn by someone who has something vaguely resembling a fashion sense.
