Working on vacation

Fucking* rocks*. Sitting at a Hyatt resort tiki-bar across from the pool, laptop is out, slightly chilled Glenfiddich 18 is next to me, Parliament Funkadelic is cranking through a pair of noise-cancelling headphones, and I’m working on a wonderful project. Would I rather be in the pool? Sure. But we have two week and this should only last a couple half days.

A lot of this was made possible by the Dope—so THANKS! If anyone noticed a handful of technical threads in the past month or so, we’ve got security in browsing, backups beyond backups, and easy and safe access to our home servers. The last one is mind-blowing for us. We thought we’d need it in case of emergency, but we found a few uses already (running things on that machine before downloading finished products, saving time by finding old files to build off of, etc.). Even setting up an AP via my laptop has already worked out.

Life. Is. Good.

So thanks for a fantastic beginning to a couple fantastic weeks~

You know what’s even better? Not working on vacation.

But yeah, if it’s a choice between working in your office or working at the Tiki Bar, I’m with ya. Enjoy. Don’t work too hard!

Ah, not working. That’s what I was thinking of. The freelance thing has its ups and downs, but we wouldn’t trade it for the world. Pretty much missed December (and much of January), so complaining is not allowed. Plus, a project just came in that just paid for the getaway. Okay, so it wiill take another day up, but whatever, we’ll find more time later this year. If we hit more than 25 percent work, it’ll be time to tel clients we’re not inthe offece.

Oh, that project? NOT possible if we didnt’ have easy access tot he office servers.

Again,

THANK. YOU. DOPERS!

May I ask what you do, and how you got into freelancing? How much of a reputation/clientele/experience did you have to build before going it alone?

I am hoping to be in your shoes some day, except at my home in the mountains and with a glass of Riesling.
