This is easily the most common called handball. Oh, I’m sorry, “handling.” Because that’s a useful distinction and people are confused if I don’t use the correct term…
You didn’t correct anything. My understanding is completely fine. We differ, apparently, only on what is considered unnatural hand position. (and whether intentional and deliberate are synonyms. Spoiler, they are in every dictionary in the world). Ball to hand with the arm in a position that isn’t designed to maximum the body’s size is called a shit ton. You will argue that’s an incorrect application of the rule. I wouldn’t disagree, but that’s not what I originally said or what you “corrected” me on.
On the game: well played by Mexico. If they can hold on and win the group they actually could have a decent bracket to make a deep run. Germany could end up with Brazil in the round of 16. Would completely screw my bracket predictions, but would be a fun rematch.
Chicharito probably deserved a penalty too. Although perhaps that foul stared outside the box?
Before the WC Roberto Carlos made a comment about how Brazil no longer plays jogo bonito and it’s a shame. Now they win through tactics and solid defense rather than free flowing offense. Gotta disagree with that assessment so far.
Switzerland equalizes! After a corner, Zuber scores, 5 minutes into the 2nd half. However, the Brazilians complained that the Swiss was pushing a Brazilian player. Nonetheless, the goal stands.
Brazil 1 - Switzerland 1
Yes, Mexico won. Germany seemed to be too over-confident.
Yes the Swiss did and I apologize to those non-cheating, always sportsmanlike Brazilians for that bit of cheating. The world should follow your clean style of play.
If you were going to tank you’d do it in the final game, no? What if we see Brazil and Serbia frantically scoring own goals in the last game to get second?
That’d be a huge bummer for Mexico to win the group and then get Brazil anyway.
Spain, Germany, Argentina and Brazil have all failed to win in the first round of matches. France were less than impressive against Australia? What next, England play well?
Some will say that the referee did not do his job properly. I have no opinion on that.
This World Cup so far has had a big heaping serving of surprises! Iceland ties against Argentina, Mexico wins against Germany, and Switzerland ties against Brazil. The juggernauts should have been able to make short work of the theoretically much weaker teams they confronted. Is this a case of widespread overconfidence in the part of the “great powers”, who underestimate their opponents until they get a big upset and then it is too late?
Not even through all the first games and I have no idea what’s going on.
Only Spain were convincing. Portugal and Mexico did what they needed to do, but I don’t think either has the quality to win 4 tough games in a row. However, in half the bracket you could possibly get Mexico playing Serbia then Colombia then Portugal and Portugal playing Russia, then Denmark, then Mexico.
The second round of games will clarify what to believe.
