Doesn’t matter who was first if the defender also plays the ball. No penalty.
That would have been an amazing ending if Ghana tied it on trickery like that.
“Trickery”?
A goalkeeper forgetting an opponent like that is a huge blunder. Hardly trickery.
Huh? It’s clearly both.
Stupid Thanksgiving interrupting my World Cup watching.
Love Brazil, hate Neymar.
Indeed. Sickening of FIFA to threaten them like that.
We have to win the 2 matches or pray for a miracle (I guess all tied with 4 points and the two that classify decided by goals, results between them an so fort), not very likely.
We are more or less in the same situation than you, our old nemesis, let’s hope we both rebound from this but only met each other in the final, if at all.
If Argentina gets out of their division, and I think they will, no harm has really been done. Yes, they had some offside goals which suggests they could be more disciplined. But it isn’t like they didn’t create good opportunities and get the ball in the net (compare Canada for an interesting contrast). They did recently win the Copa America. And they have an awful lot of incentive to win now.
Although 538 only gave them a 58% chance of advancing, the Vegas odds did not change much for them to win the Cup, only about from +750 to +900. I’m curious about this.
They’re more likely to finish 2nd now and therefore more likely to play a strong team in the next round, that’s real damage to their chances.
I still think Argentina will win their remaining 2 games, Saudi will lose both and the final standing will be:
Argentina - 6
Mexico - 4
Poland - 4
Saudi Arabia -3
I thought Germany would bounce back and get out of their group last time too though.
There’s an interesting article in The Atlantic saying the soccer balls have an advanced sensor which allows for much more accurate offside calls along with much other data. I wonder if this was a factor for Argentina, but kind of doubt it.
I have been a provincial level soccer referee for many years, though not for a long time. Offside is not usually a difficult call among knowledgeable people; that alone is a huge portion of the linespersons job. I don’t have a problem with automation. There have been a lot of articles essentially saying let the players play and let close offsides slide. I don’t agree with that. In fact, I think the articles are a little ignorant. The difference between offside and offside position is not that hard a concept.
Wales v Iran.
Wales are living on the edge somewhat. Iran breaking really well but just no clinical finishes. They had the ball in the net but definitely offside.
This is set up perfectly for Wales to snatch it in the 98th minute
Well that just took a dramatic turn!
And now, Hennessy out against England as well….
The Welsh keeper with a Schuhmacher remembrance foul. WIth the difference that it means red this time.
As an American, I think I’m content if this just stays tied….
The scoreline would suit you but Iran’s performance is enough to give one pause for thought.
1-0 Iran. Totally deserved.
Boom! great strike and yes, totally deserved.
It certainly is.
Iran are doing fine as well.
