World Cup 2022 - discussion, predictions, and thoughts

Heck, at this point I’m rooting for Japan and Costa Rica to both win and advance. Wouldn’t bother me to see the Euro powers on the sidelines.

Both Spain and Germany currently going out. Can’t believe this.

Doubt it’ll stay this way but absolutely extraordinary drama.

This is absolutely the most evil sport of all.
I feel for our German dopers.

These final stage games in the World Cup can get so crazy; the sporting equivalent of quantum entanglement where a goal in one game can instantly change the other game. And this has to be one of the most exciting group finales ever with both Spain and Germany in danger.

And now the Germans are back in front. But they need Spain to score…

NVM: I was right the first time.

Not too much incentive for Spain to push for the draw here. Their reward would be keeping Germany in the competition and having to face Croatia instead of Morocco.

So basically Germany’s goal has saved Spain but they need Spain to score to save them? Amazing…

Yeah, at this point, Germany can’t score enough to knock Spain out.

And Japan wins the group! Germany are out.

Japan wins and Germany is out!!

Did they every show a replay that conclusive showed the ball stayed in for Japan’s second goal? It looked out on the one I saw but I know they have ball tracking technology that may have shown it definitively.

Is Spain out?

Nope Spain goes through because Germany won.

Nope, Japan and Spain go to the round of 16

No, Spain finish second on goal difference over Germany. If Germany had lost, then Costa Rica would have joined Japan. But since Germany won Spain went through. Spain didn’t return the favor.

Your maths seem wrong

It seemed they got the math all correct to me?

Thanks, I have been swamped at work and not able to keep track.

He said Spain needed a win or a draw……

And Costa Rica is also out, then? Did they have any chance win or lose?
