Yeah that was an exciting finish on both ends of the pitch.
Frodo Argentina lives
Are we sure, he hasn’t posted yet
Argentina’s route is now full of peril. Netherlands next, then potentially Brazil.
I’ll take a repeat of 1998. Thank you:)
Argentina didn’t have a clear strategy to control the speed of the play: that was playing into Australia’s strength, a willingness to keep running.
I wasn’t really impressed by Argentina. I like our (NED) chances.
The match I’m looking forward to the most in this round is Morocco-Spain.
I DON’T hehehehehe
I think Diego was behind Dibu Martinez in that last play, making sure the ball didn’t cross the goal.
Well to be an Argentina fan is to suffer I guess.
First you celebrate with your family, then with your friends
I would never! Nobody deserves that!
Well, maybe there were some Italian teams that did, a long time ago, but they are not in Qatar and it’s better that way
And congratulations! See you in the final, if all goes well. That one I would watch. I may watch some other game before that too, to be honest.
Can a NL-ARG quarterfinal tease you into switching on? Because I think this will be a very interesting and close game.
Yes, it could. Do you happen to know which other games, apart from todays USA-NL, will not be shown on German TV?
Sadly, the England-Senegal game. Starting with the quarterfinals, everything will be on ARD or ZDF.
Thanks! I must admit reading you all here makes watching temptinger and temptinger.
I must eat crow again and recognize that NICOLÁS HERNÁN GONZALO OTAMENDI is a great player and belongs exactly where he is in the Selección.
Has anyone complained about the moving images that line the field? By it’s nature they need advertisement within view of the camera because they have limited commercial time in a soccer match. I totally get that. But has the movement of the images every annoyed players to the point they mention it publicly?
I assumed the advertising was on green screens for TV.
That would make sense and I thought about it but I didn’t think it possible with the camera panning about. But they can put scrimmage lines on a football field and make them look like they’re painted on regardless of camera movement so I think you’re right.
I saw that game this morning. Other than giving up that first goal so soon, no real surprise. I haven’t been able to find the stats, but isn’t the second round pretty much the end of the road? I think there was one trip to quarters in '02 or something. I’m interested if you think this team is really improving or turning the corner like the sportscasters are always hoping for. It always seems like more of the same to me.
Now the women, yeah, they completely kick butt.
You expected the US to play the Netherlands even on scoring opportunities? If you want to be very reductive, the Netherlands scored their chances and the US didn’t score theirs (Ream, Pulisic, and Wright all missed big big chances). Yes, this team has more talent than any other US team, although some of the previous teams (2002, 2010) played above their talent level.
Look at the 2014 game against Belgium. That was the US getting the shit kicked out of them for 120 minutes. They were far far worse from whistle to whistle. The US played the Netherlands (and England) straight up and was ~equal. That’s a huuuuge difference. The talent level is higher, but the talent pipeline is much wider. MLS academies are just now paying dividends, but will continue far into the future.
Sure, they’re going out in the same round they did in 2014, but yeah, massive difference.
