The ones for the people on the side line seem a bit much. Maybe the ref is sensing things are getting heated and sending a message.
I don’t think carding bench players is going to help with that. Just makes the ref look like the common enemy to be ignored by both sides. Apparently this ref is known for being an attention-getter, which is not a good role for refs.

Yelling at one of the officials. Not super unusual. 3 in a half is though.
By the way, whatever they did, it worked. Credit where credit is due…. 
But making a flagrant hands is worth a card if you’re Messi.

Had they given a yellow for the handball I don’t think he goes in for that though. So I guess the non-yellow allowed Argentina to break up an attack for free.
