They lost Pogba, Kante, and Benzema to injury and still have the most talent in the tournament. If you want to stretch, Umtiti would be in the prime of his career if it weren’t for injuries. Bench is Liverpool, Bayern, Real Madrid. One of the few cases were a national team might have more talent than the top club teams.
It’s funny to see them go after Upa at the break. Yes that’s how he has played for Bayern, but that includes against Haaland and in CL matches. The trade-off is him pushing forward and getting passes through the line.
I believe it is even worse that what you write: If France went directly from that foul just outside the box (which it was not!! It started outside but was continued into the box… ah, well…) and scored the VAR would look at it and be allowed to say that the start of the sequence was a foul, which then would have to be given. But if it does not end immediately in a goal, the VAR is not allowed to say it was a foul if it was just outside the box (which is wasn’t!!) and therefore no penalty. This is a point where VAR still has to be improved.
Great snap snot by Bellingham (he might be unreal in a couple years) and a great save by Lloris. Then another big chance on the corner!
Penalty for England
Now this is a clear penalty for a change.
Totally deserved equalizer for England.
ETA: and this is how you shoot a penalty! Against his club mate even.
England’s roster is also unusually balanced for an international side.
And yeah, totally deserved. England’s been better for a bit now.
I think 1-1 is fair enough on balance of play, England started the half much better.
That was fascinating to see Walker and Mbappe really go all out.
England probably has more impactful subs. They have Sterling, Rashford, and Grealish in reserve.
This game has really come alive. France came back strongly after conceding a goal just like England did.
I’m so nervous.
Dembele having an off game. A couple of balls have found him in the box and he’s misplayed them,
France don’t know how to handle Saka. He’s drawing a foul every time he gets it.
Their solution seems to be to beat him like a red headed step child.
England having the best of it at the moment, feel like they are on the edge here
That probably gets whistled in the middle of the field. Upamecano on Bellingham I mean.
Giroud dives and then the mic picks up him yelling at the linesman to “open your fucking eyes.”
I really dislike Giroud, but nice goal.
ETA wonder if that’s a goal without the deflection.
