I used to call them all kind of ugly things, but something strange happened as I got older, I cannot get so angry with them, I feel for them, if they miss a penalty I suffer for them, if they lose a ball I think of how they must feel. This is true. It was worth a red card, to say the least. And the ref would have had more control of the game had he handed out one earlier. I don’t think he did a great job - he missed some important things - if the ref didn’t see that play, and he should have, where was the linesman? But most referees would have found this game difficult to officiate. And I tend to sympathize with referees.
