World Cup 2022 - discussion, predictions, and thoughts

I used to call them all kind of ugly things, but something strange happened as I got older, I cannot get so angry with them, I feel for them, if they miss a penalty I suffer for them, if they lose a ball I think of how they must feel. It used to be that they were older than me, then they were the same age, now they are kids, kids who are there putting everything on the line to make this shitty year less shitty, I cannot get angry with them, It would be like getting angry with my son.

Thanks!

If Messi wins the final against France, he should promptly retire from everything, including club football. End his career by going out on the highest of notes.

Makes me wish there were a “like” button to upvote posts like this one.

2010 Messi had a bad World Cup.
2014 they were walking wounded. Di Maria was out with injury in the later stages, Mascherano and Auguero played the final injured.

There’s also a component of luck in futbol, sometimes the ball just doesn’t go in.

And or Higuain shits the bed.

After that tackle the Argentinian handballer shot the ball into the Dutch bench with all he had.

That 2014 final was maddening to watch, and I’m not even Argentine.

Higuain could have scored twice, Palacio could have scored once.

To this day “Era por abajo Palacio” (“you should’ve played it low Palacio”) it’s a byword in Argentina.

They finished third in 2002 after knocking off the Germans in the QF round.

Correction: that was in 1998.

Who would you be more comfortable with in the final? Obviously France is the favourite but that Moroccan defence is ruthless.

With a hand on my heart, beyond al posturing (“Let the better team face us” and the like) I would prefer Morocco, this France team is the boogeyman of this world cup.

This is true. It was worth a red card, to say the least. And the ref would have had more control of the game had he handed out one earlier. I don’t think he did a great job - he missed some important things - if the ref didn’t see that play, and he should have, where was the linesman? But most referees would have found this game difficult to officiate. And I tend to sympathize with referees.

Morocco have beaten Belgium, Spain and Portugal. Canadians were nonplussed by what was perceived as lacklustre performance, but in retrospect it was easily the toughest division.

The French have two explosive forwards but only the Canadians cracked Morocco’s defence. Our technique was to bore them by starting broad-based, multilateral discussions on the role of federal-provincial relations in multicultural negotiations until they cracked.

No.

Doctors are now exploring whether Mr. Wahl had Marfan syndrome, a risk factor for this type of aneurysm. He was tall and thin and had long arms, all of which can be signs of the genetic syndrome.

So far Karl Heinze Rumminege, Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi have led a side to two separate World Cup Finals. In todays match Hugo Lloris hopes to become Captain number 5.

Vittorio Pozzo, Helmut Schon, Franz Beckenbauer and Carlos Bilardo have led teams to multiple World Cup finals. Deschamps can be no 5 as well.

Hey, why are you bringing the plot of The Phantom Menace into a World Cup thread?

That was the first time in this tournament that the Moroccan defense was confused.
