I’m a bit miffed that Thuram took a dive. He isn’t known for it and shouldn’t pull off something like this in the biggest game he ever played.
Two 15 minute periods of extra time, then kicks from the mark. Yeah, like any other elimination game these days. The World Cup final isn’t special in this regard.

I’ve never liked penalty shots during play as I stated above. And for the same reason given I don’t like them as a form of overtime. They don’t represent the skill of a 90 minute game.
I think it should either be full 10 minute additions (no sudden death) or in the event of a World Cup it should be a best-off series of playoffs for 1st place like in baseball.
I just hope someone wins it in extra time. Take it away from penalties.

This is now the the 8th World Cup final to go into extra time. Two of the previous seven went to penalty kicks.
The French obviously took horse dewormers at the half. They take 30 minutes to kick in.
As an aside, I just hope that in four years, the United States can get some decent commentators.

Interesting that the second French goal came directly from Messi screwing up and losing possession in midfield.
To be fair, he had just taken the ball away from a French attacker and it was a questionable challenge. I’m more concerned that he is dropping so deep. I know in club okay he dribbles into the box from the halfway line so the time, but he hasn’t run with the ball much today.

Before I was rudely interrupted by the goals, I was going to say that Argentina hadn’t forced France to play badly. There were so many unforced errors from France that I don’t think that reasoning holds.
Whatever that reason was they shook it off and they are all hustle and bustle again, Funny game football.
Where are they supposed to have these playoffs? What do you tell the tens of thousands of people who have traveled across the world for a world cup final?
This is nothing like baseball. You’re not just driving from Pittsburgh to Cleveland (or whatever). It’s international flights, visas, 80 different languages, etc.
