World of Warcraft General Discussion

… Not ones that drop in raids, no. I’m talking about what we do for Naxx/OS/EoE/Uld.

Ah, thanks. Didn’t know that.

Because a DKP system is just an attempt to artifically recreate what a good loot council does. DKP is better than loot council *only *when you can’t trust your council to hand the items over to the characters who will best use them to advance the raid, so you need to have a point-based system to put it all on paper so that no one can exploit it or bitch about it.

If you’ve got mature raiders and knowledgeable loot council members, the council is *always *going to be best option for progressing the raid as a whole.

I’d love a loot council, but it’ll never happen.

We don’t like drama. None of our GMs want to deal with the endless back and forth of item X being a 4.32671 dps increase for the raid if it goes to character1, and a 4.32762 increase if it goes to character2, as character2 blah blah blah. The guild I was in when I started doing Kara used loot council for 10mans, and having been RL for some of those, I understand the desire to avoid it (as a note the odds of me being cajoled into a leadership role in my current guild are very low :)).

ETA: it’s the bitching about that we want to avoid. You can exploit any system, if you work at it, and there are people who “play the DKP meta game”. We do have rules to minimize this, but, well, they too can be gamed.

I need to help my wife get a Choppa. Not for a good reason, mind you, but so I can use her toon to drag low level alts around to Fire Festival quests. One of the mamoths that carry two would be better, I could power level using my friend account that way :), but she wants to be a cow on a motorcycle, and who am I to argue?

Sigh. Wouldn’t you know it? Cooking is the one secondary profession that I didn’t take at low levels. Now I’m lvl 80 and took Apprentice Cooking, but I haven’t had time to level it up yet :frowning:

SFG mentioned the 3-second cast time for mounts adding up after a while, and I guess that’s part of what bugs me about people doing this. They’re either completely oblivious, or they feel that their time is more important than mine, so they save their 3 seconds at the expense of forcing me to either wait for them to finish and move away, or spending time fooling with my camera angles.

I did finally see a good use for parking a mammoth a couple weeks ago, though. I was in SW on my bank alt and there was a gold seller there. So one player summoned his Tundra Mammoth right on top of the bank seller’s toon  Of course, that didn’t do anything to block the gold seller’s spam, but it covered up his jumping up and down, and was funny.

I keep waiting to see a gold seller now that between my wife and I we have 4 accounts. I’ve got a set of level 1s set up and waiting to chain friend summon each other to a capital city so I can have them /point the twitt while yelling ‘Stranger Danger!’ Okay, maybe only I find that funny.

Cycloning the MT when the enemy is on your general is also great fun. I’ve wiped entire offenses by doing that
I got my Midsummer stuff done in about 2.5 hours yesterday - largely because I’d done most of it already. I purchased the complete outfit (and the pet) last year, so didn’t need to do much. I missed two fires last year for the various fire achievements, which I picked up easy; did the pole dance, did the juggling, and then had to wait about an hour or so for an Ahune group; I hadn’t done him before, so didn’t want to waste my summon in case I couldn’t solo him. After seeing how the fight goes, I think I can probably solo him, though.

Up to 80 pets so far. Ahune’s would be 81, if I can manage to actually get it…

This reminds me. I got my Draenei up to Ambassador status a couple of weeks ago, purely so that he could get a Mechanostrider.

If you’ve never seen a 7 foot tall goatman riding around on a robotic chicken half his size…well. It’s a sight. In fact, it rather looks simply like he’s donned Bjorn’s swan outfit and had his legs replaced with cybernetic implants. I could watch him run around all day and never stop giggling.

You wouldn’t happen to have a screenshot of this, would you?

Sigh… I wish Tauren had a tiny race mount available to them.

Not on hand, but I’ll see if I can put one up when I get home tonight.

Thanks! I’m sure it’s awesome, though.

This is good information! I have baby spice, but hadn’t even looked it over. hits head( I’d just stuck it in the bank).

Ha ha - I didn’t know saying ‘Yo - stop shouting incoherently in ALL CAPS’ was Wow for dressing sexy.

I’ve been doing the Midsummer Festival thing and worked through Extinguishing Flames in the Eastern Kingdoms last night. Got Flame Keeper for both Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms.

Next up: Outland and Northrend. I’ve got some Outland fires already, need to finish.

Goldshire was a PAIN IN THE ASS. People were camping the fire and wearing out their taunt fingers for ten minutes straight. Some dwarf paladin chased me across half of Westfall just for the gank.

Tried Ahune with two groups. First group rolled over Ahune no worries, but the DK got loot-crazy and needed on the … I think it was the caster cloak. :smack:

Second group was lowbie. Granted. We had 3 summon attempts available, so we went for it. However, the warlock *went AFK *during the boss summon. TWICE. And had the cheek to come back after the wipe and say “wat?” Cheers mate. Unsurprisingly, we did not down Ahune.

You can, temporarily. Make a tauren Death Knight and, when you’re sent to steal a horse, steal one of the babies. You’ll have a (really) tiny mount until you return it to whatshisface.

SFG!!!

Gratz on winning the fishing tournament!

I can make my toon jump to the top tier of the fountain in Moonbrook!!! (read that like I’m a a little kid trying to top your winning the tournament, and smile, please!;))

(Who is about to go into serious WoW-tees because AT&T can’t connect me to DSL 6.0 till Wednesday and my wife tells me that even then we’re gonna have to call 'em and get directions on how to do an “ether-bridge” because we’ll have two computers with a wireless router. Or some such Geek-Speek. She’s the smart spouse. I just hang around and wait to sign on to WoW! ;))

LOL - I had one of these following me around while we briefly happened to be following the same flame-to-flame route yesterday. It looked [del]utterly ridiculous[/del] like pure win

I suppose the belf mount would produce a similar effect!

This reminds me of a very funny webcomic, “Flintlocke vs. the Horde”–one of the main characters there (an Orc hunter) is trying to get himself an owl pet. It’s kind of a long series of comics (and if you like the gist of it, I’d suggest you read the whole thing starting at the beginning–it’s very funny) but it’s worth it.

Grats on the fishing tournament win, SFG! I’ve occasionally tried for that, but never gotten very far with it.

Not really - it scales up like the other Tauren mounts do. So you basically wind up with a really big bird instead of a normal sized one.
