An SDMB World of Warcraft guild

Okay. Over in the WoW level 60 thread, we’ve all been talking about creating a guild on WoW just for Dopers. You guy want to go for it? I’ll start:

I will donate a pre-built guild with a guild bank (one tab: 98 slots) and tabard, and put all of my Alliance toons in it (70 frost mage, 58 shadow priest, 30 warlock, and some little dudes, including a bank toon). It’s on a PvE normal server. The last time I had a wait queue to log in was the week of the Burning Crusade release.

I have a 375 tailor that will make bags & things for Doper guildies for free (you supply mats, of course), and a 300+ cook that will do the same with the good buff foods. I can probably get my son to bring in his 70 hunter that’s 375 leatherworking to do the same thing. I’ll also pitch in a bunch of low-level mats to help people get started with crafting professions (herbs, ores, leather, etc.).

BUT: I won’t run the whole thing. I’d want three officer volunteers: one to coordinate raiding (assuming we get enough people and want to do it), one for regular instance runs, and one for helping people quest, grind, and level.

So who’s in? What can you volunteer to get it off the ground?

I’m interested… but what server?

Which server, i am on thunderhorn [2 70 locks, one alliance and one horde] but for a number of reasons I really dont want to leave the server, I just transferred my horde 70 there about a week ago…

Yeah, leaving a server is the hard part, especially if you’ve built up relationships there. I’d be willing to start a new toon on this one.

So, which server?

Also, what is the guild name? Flaming Cecils? Ultimate Compendium of Knowledge? Smartazzes?

I just started playing a trial version a few days ago; I’m not locked in to anyplace, and would love other people to play with.

Teeming Millions? :stuck_out_tongue:

Unfortunately I don’t have any ally toons of a decent level, I’d gladly start a new one and join, though leaving my only higher level toon that I’ve actively played since release will be hard. As such I’d volunteer to help with levelling and such as an officer, but my lack of ally experience (I only have experience up to ashenvale on NEs really) and the fact that I’m the slowest leveller in the world (oooh… shiny… let’s go explore and not level for a week of /played time!) may make me unqualified for the position.

Edit: Other names I’ve used and my guildies have liked:
Gilded Rose
Sols Shade

FWIW, from the linked thread:

If this happens I might have to resubscribe. All my toons are on gorgonnash, I would be willing to start new characters, but getting back to a high level, if raiding was an interest, would be a chore. Although I’ve almost exclusively played DPS, so a new role might be interesting.

There are rumours afoot that those of us with the EU version of the game will have access to the American servers soon (and vice versa). If that happens I’ll transfer one 70 over and join you guys wherever you end up. Timezones and the uncertainty of the above being what they are I’d not really be available for a position of responsibility though.

Cool, I’m glad to see my hint-dropping was noticed for our own guild on the other thread.

I was thinkin more along the lines of everyone starting at 0 & workin up - everything from ground zero. No money, no help but from eachother. No one person running the guild and financing it… it’ll take everybody. We can all RP our character/situation, or not (I like to RP)

I thought this might be better than someone doin the “level 60 now what”… or it least it’ll take awhile before getting there if we all start from scratch.

As noted, I’m on Khaz Modan. If you folks want to take me up on the existing guild, it’s called Rebels Without a Khaz. As far as I know, we can’t change guild names. We could always just collect donations and start a new one if everyone wants a more appropriate name. If I recall correctly, the guild petition, tabard, and guild bank cost a bit over 110 gold.

If there’s a consensus that we should use a different server, I’d consider moving one of my toons, but I’m not going to move them all. I’d probably start at least one new alt on the new server.

oh - guild names related to Dopers exclusively… “Ask Cecil”?
“No New Threads” lol “Cite?!” “fighting Ignorance” ? Of course, we’d have to be carefull since the term “doper” can be misleading.

And these characters can be our back-up to our main… think of it as a WoW version of D&D where we eventually meet, form a guild, earn monies, trades, & respect. Yup, thats the best way I can explain what I had in mind is a version of D&D - and on a server noone has ties with so theres no temptation for handouts.

It’d be fun to have it challenging & to see where we go

just a thought (under the influence, too)

Hey, I’m on Khaz Modan! But I won’t roll Alliance. Ever. So I’ll be content to just to kill you all if/when I see you in the BGs :stuck_out_tongue:

I like the way you think Pixilated  I’m in on that!

Er…not that I have a problem with joining an existing guild like Rebels without a Khaz (I like the name) ;), if we’re doing that, I’d be all over that - but I do like the idea of starting from scratch - maybe this could be a nice place to escape if you’re feeling pressured or bored with your regular toon. It would be nice to eventually have a name that is doper-esque too.

My vote on servers: PVE or RPPVE
My vote on Horde or Alliance: Either.

I got to about 46 three months ago and just dropped out. I didn’t feel like I had anyone to “play” with. Just a bunch of kids to kick my ass and make fun of me for not know where the heck everything was or what to do.

I might consider joining again if there is a guild of you guys though.

I’ve dabbled in WoW a little. I’d be interested to try a SDMB guild. Either starting a new character or transferring would be acceptable. I have a slight preference for Horde and an RP server, but it’s not strong. A PVP server is not an option for me (I’m a casual player and getting ganked would take too much of my playtime).

There is about as much PvP on a PvP server as there is RP on a RP server.

Especially leveling as a group in the old world. I doubt you’d even see another person that wasn’t power-leveling an alt.

I prefer Horde characters on RP (no pvp, please) - but I’m easy goin. Heck, most likely I’ll make a couple of characters for each side.

There is a brand new realm - Cairne, normal, low pop

All the rest low pops are pvp but there are still plenty of rp & norm realms w/medium pops open.
We just need to come together and decide on a realm & such. I just know that I suck at being a warrior - so that class is out for me.

I’m in for PvE. I would prefer to start a new character to lvl with the rest of the dopers.
So any server/faction will do for me.
