World of Warcraft General Discussion

Oh, my! Those are some gorgeous steeds, for sure, thanks for showing them to me!

I hope to meet my guild-mate in a little while (5 pm server-time) to finally finish that Dead Mines run, and those horses will give me some incentive to level up from there.

Thanks

I could have sworn I got one. If not, I wonder what mail I am thinking of.

I’m going to be so embarrassed if it turns out I am thinking of something else.

OK, I checked and they’re apparently going to start sending them at level 20 when the new patch comes out.

Maybe they just send them to night elves, thinking we’ll be too busy hugging butterflies to remember to go on our own.

So would you say I need to look into my “Abilities” section to see if it appears there if I don’t get an e-mail?

Thanks

It won’t be there till you learn it, so at level 30, message or not, head to the riding trainer. The hardest part for me was choosing which color of beast I liked best.

Both my tauren hunter and my blood elf paladin got a letter at lvl 30.

All my Hordie toons have gotten the “Yay! Come learn how to ride!” letter. So has the single lonely >30 Alliance toon.

Hai’shulud, of course, being a callback to the sandworms of Dune, which are called Shai’hulud by the Fremen.

You have to buy the Riding skill, just like you buy the First Aid skill or Cooking skill. You also have to buy mounts in order to ride. Both are cheaper than they once were, though.

Hmm. Now that I think about it, I’ve pretty much gone from “ding, 40/30!” to immediately running to the trainer. Maybe they give you a hint if you’re not that fast about it.

Yeeee-HAW! Finally got Van Cleef’s head and turned it in.

I feel like I got “rooked” though, because my guild-mate who was going to run me through the instance never showed and I pre-paid her 15g. This was last night when we could not entger the first portal and she said she’d meet me today at 5…

Someone else ran me though and I paid her afterward.

Oh well!:smack:

Live and learn, I reckon.

Speaking of mounts, I finally got together the 5,000 gold for my epic flying skill. Now I just need to get the gold together for the actual mount! That shouldn’t take too long, though thankfully.

Shit. Did I summon her?

Oh, I just want to smite this one for the atrocious punctuation!

 You have to pay guildies for help? Holy cow. I guess I’ve been lucky. I’ve never paid anyone for a run. I do what I can to help out when needed, even to non-guildies, and when I need a hand I’ve had help for no charge. And 15g for Deadmines? You got robbed. No way it’s worth that much.

When I was bored with my 80 sometimes I’d head to Deadmines or the Stockades and offer free runs to whoever wanted it. I had fun just slaughtering things by the dozen, lol.

Same here. I love taking my Pally in and popping heads with Exorcism. It’s a fun respite from battling things in Outland.

No, you didn’t. She’s probably being paid by a gold-selling outfit to search Google for mentions of WoW and post in message board threads she finds, and this thread popped up in the last search she did. Nothing to do with you, Quasi, so relax.

Ya know what’d be fun?

Get all you high-level Straight Doper players into one guild (I know we have The Horde), and then just have, like an “All-Star Game”, during which some of the rest of us could watch y’all kick ass.

Or does something like that already exist?

About the gold-farmer: Looks like it’s legal now on WoW to buy gold. Have you noticed?

Since I made that first mistake I haven’t bought any more, and have spam-reported sellers, but there’s just so many of them now.

Also, about me paying for my runs? I don’t mind, even if it IS one of my guildies.

Now, I WILL say that if I hadn’t bought all that gold to begin with, I couldn’t spread it around as much, but tonight I got so disoriented trying to find my flight from Darkshire back to Stormwind that I finally just hearthed to Sentinel Hill and jumped another flight from there to SW, and people were waiting on me even then!

Once I got to SW, I ran around like a chicken with its head cut off until I just accidentally “ran up” to the Stocks.

I don’t like to be that kind of a burden to my guild-mates, so I “reward” them for their patience with me.

I have since written down the directions, which is something I will also have to do once I go back into Iron Forge (which to me is like one of those rat-mazes)!

Anyway, every little bit of knowledge I am able to gather and retain is like a huge “Victory” for me. I know that players who don’t have memory problems do not understand this, and I also know that most of my “guildies” are kids, but they are getting to know me a little, so that’s okay.

I just have to re-explain that just because I’m a 29 level warrior doesn’t mean I know what in the frigg I am doing, and THAT is a hard one to deliver indeed!

Thanks

Don’t worry, I tend to get turned around in IF too. Pretty much a problem with any of the “circular” cities. The undead capital of Undercity is insanely confusing.

The tauren capital, Thunder Bluff, can also be confusing, though it’s not circular. rather, it’s built on top of several tall bluffs that are close together. The big bluff in the middle has three levels to it, and then there are three other areas that are built on adjacent bluffs.

Cities like SW, which are on sort of a grid, are easier. As long as I can see where I’m starting from, everything is just, “right turn, go straight, right turn, left turn …”

New hobby for when I’m really bored: I’m going to identify and locate the Bloodsail Buccaneers dude that hands out the quest to kill Booty Bay guards. Then, while the latest DK is going nuts in BB, I’ll just run to the Bloodsail guy and whack him. Preferably just as the DK arrives to turn it in.

Yeah, yet another DK killing the questgiver I needed to hand a quest in to.

Then again, I’ve finally finished all the quests in BB

I flew on over to Westfall to check for anything I might have missed, though I was pretty sure I’d done everything there. But sure enough, there was one “!” centered right on the tower at Sentinel Hill. Actually, all I could see was a fraction of the dot at the bottom of the exclamation point - the rest was hidden under one of Gatherer’s icons on the minimap. It turned out to be Scout Riell wanting me to collect 10 Silk Defias Bandanas. Had to go into the Deadmines entrance (though not into the instance itself) to kill the appropriate mobs.

Anyway, now I’ve completely cleared Elwynn, STV, and Westfall. Now to go check Duskwood/.

Rik, if you are so inclined and can, I could use some help with my “Legend of Stalvan” quest. He’s a 32 and I’ve just been working on his undead in order to level up…
