Well, crap, guys. The mass of this thread has grown so large it’s begun attracting satellite real-money trolls.
Say, does anybody know if there’s a hotkey to level out my flight (or swimming)? I’m getting so freakin’ tired of inadvertently tapping my right mouse button and suddenly finding myself diving at the ground or climb-climb-climbing into the sky!
The only way I’ve found to “reset” to perfectly level flight, short of logging out and back in again, is to grab a flight from a gryphon/hippogryph master. If I’m flying over something naturally level, like water, I can kinda sorta get things leveled out, but there isn’t always a convenient body of water nearby.
Not only are the li’l ones adorable, but if you try to rescue them when you -don’t- have the quest, they’re pretty darn smart! They say things like ‘no go with stranger!’ and ‘you not momma!’
Obviously very well-trained.
25-man raid. I only got to run him once, though.
I like it! And it’s nice to know there’s someone else who puts as much thought into naming characters etc. as I do. (I don’t name my mounts, though–just my toons and Hunter pets).
Oh, and! I thought of you yesterday when I dropped the Shaman I’m leveling to turn into a 19 twink off at the inn in Westfall. Innkeeper Heather told me she was “Open for business.”
No, I’m afraid I’m the only Troll Hunter allowed. We have a quota of one.
Are you controlling your movement entirely with the keyboard? Try using your mouse, instead. Hold down your left mouse button, aim the camera where you want to go, add the right mouse button (both mouse buttons = you move in the direction you’re looking), and hit the autorun key (I have mine bound to the thumb button on my mouse). Easy-peasy.
I believe the pitch-up and pitch-down keybindings also control the angle of flight and swimming.
Ditto. I don’t pay attention to the local defense channels, but when someone announces in the local channel that some twit is killing the questgivers, I’ll usually rush in and take him out (or try, anyway).
The one that amuses me is the dwarven flightmaster in Ironforge. You ask him to fly you to somewhere, he puts you on a griffin, and as you’re flying away he says “Keep your feet on the ground!”
I hate murlocs, too, but that quest chain was AWESOME.
This sounds like you’re suggesting using the mouse to manually re-level my flight. Unfortunately, that’s where my problem is starting: with the mouse.
When I’m on the ground (on foot), I’ll use right-click & hold to rotate my toon so that she’s aligned better with a fish school or with an opponent in combat. When using a ground mount I’ll occasionally use the mouse right-click to steer across a narrow bridge, just because with the speed involved, the keyboard steering isn’t precise enough (actually, the problem using the keyboard there is that it wants to rotate too quickly, so where I may want to just correct my forward course by a couple degrees, tapping the right- or left-turn directional key gets me a 10-degree turn, and depending on how narrow the bridge or ledge is and how far it is to the ground below, that is undesirable
)
The problem is that it’s basically impossible to only rotate left and right using the mouse. There’s going to also be some small degree of up or down rotation as well - it can’t be helped. If you’re standing on the ground it isn’t noticeable, but for whatever reason the game “remembers” the up/down angle until you somehow clear it. So I can be on the ground and unintentionally change my up/down angle with the right mouse button, and never notice until I summon my flying mount. Then I launch myself into the air, and as soon as I take my finger off the “ascend” directional key (space bar by default), the angle determined by my mouse right-click takes over again and, depending on the last up/down angle I unknowingly set, suddenly I’m descending again, or continuing to climb.
So that’s why, when I’m flying, I prefer to use only the keyboard. That way, as soon as I release the “ascend” or “descend” key, my bird returns to level flight. What I’m looking for is a key that will automatically and instantly “zero” my up/down angle so that, when I’m pressing just the “forward” key, my bird maintains perfectly level flight. Agreed, I can sort of do this with the mouse while holding the right button down, but without some sort of visual meter to tell me where “zero” is, I can’t get it precisely level and I have to continue making up & down adjustments while I fly.
Cool! I’m always glad to see that I’m not the only one who dropped the gold on the Antiseptic-Soaked Bandages (I also bought the non-antiseptic-soaked version). When I bought them (they’re like 24g each, IIRC) I kind of thought, “wow, I am an RP geek!” But I see people all the time using them as shirts. ![]()
As for the movie, neat. I always enjoy watching WoW movies. I’ve got this really great idea for a machinima that I’m dying to make (it’s a music video based on some of my mage’s history) but I can’t get WoW Model Viewer to work and I need it because I need to have both my Horde mage and some human Scarlet Crusade types I can control inside the Scarlet Monastery. Does anybody know if there’s a version yet that works with WotLK? I’ve tried loading it but I always get errors. Sorry for the hijack, but it occurred to me that there might be folks here who can help me out.
Well, got my BE Paladin on the Caine server, Kalathan, up to level 60 yesterday. *And *I managed to do so without having to quest in the two zones that I hate: Un’Goro Crater and Eastern Plaguelands.
So now I have to decide how many of the quests currently in my quest log I want to actually finish before I head for Outland and Hellfire Penninsula.
Had to look it up, but “attitude” is the term I was looking for, along with “pitch”. I’m ending up with a “nose up attitude” or a “nose down attitude”, and I want a way to correct my mount’s attitude to zero.
I was kind of perplexed by the extremely expensive “Dalaran Nurse’s Gown”. It looks to me to simply be the same robe priests start out in, with a minor cutout on the upper arm part of the sleeves.
I’m kind of bummed that there doesn’t seem to be a functional Mac version of WoW Model Viewer at all.
Here is someone’s macro that will set and lock flight angle to 0. It also apparently will lock your camera, which can be unlocked by toggling the macro again. I haven’t tested it, but it sounds promising.
/script if not FlyLevel then FlyLevel = 1 ConsoleExec("pitchlimit 0") else FlyLevel = nil ConsoleExec("pitchlimit 89") end
As mentioned above, you can also use the pitch up & pitch down keybindings to manually adjust your flight angle.
Did you actually **try **my instructions? I’m guessing not. Ugh. This is reason #423 that keyboard turning sucks–you never learn how to use your mouse. Go back and re-read what I suggested–you will be directing yourself **exactly **where you want to go, then putting it on autopilot, so you won’t **need **to go up or down after that. You just aim youself at whatever level you want and turn on autorun. Need to adjust the angle again? Just click both mouse buttons, adjust, and put autorun back on. (And it’s even easier if you’ve got an extra mouse key to bind to autorun so that you don’t have to keep leaning over to punch numlock.)
(P.S., If you want to keep using the keyboard, consider using the **strafing **keys instead of the **turning **ones for situations where you want to cross a bridge or something else finicky like that.)
RP gear. Alternatively, a gold sink for people who really have nothing better to do with their money than deck out their bank alts in crazy outfits.
Good news for you, if you haven’t already picked up the Elemental Seaforium Charge; MMO Champion is reporting an update to 3.2 that includes removal of the requirement for it.
If you can stand to wait. ![]()
Woo, that’s good news! I’d planned to wait already, since I had no intention of paying 1000 gold for Expert riding when I can pay 480 instead. It requires a lot more Fel Iron than I’d planned on, but that at least isn’t a big issue. I wasn’t looking forward to that rep grind. I would have started on it already, but I’ve been working on a new Gnome Mage in order to play with a friend.
Of course, just because a change is on the current PTR version doesn’t mean it’ll make it into the live patch. But that doesn’t mean you can’t wait and see.
Why, that brazen Huffy! I knew something was up when I’d return after a hard night of fighting the “Undies” (what I call “The Undead”), sidle up next to her and that hand of hers would come through my male crotchal area and out the other side!
Guess I just wasn’t enough, but if she’d just said somethin’, hell, I woulda come around more often.
Now you’ve got me worried about those guys at the saw-mill, and all that “wood”.
Still, me and Wolkie love her, and when we hearth, we always land right at her side, sitting down, and her hand is always on top of our head, patting it.
Can I buy stuff for Silka, to make her saddle and other accoutrements look nice, or is the game that sophisticated?
Thanks for the smiles, SFG! Can you tell I’m REALLY into RPG’s?

A brilliant WoW/Starcraft mashup. Helps if you’ve seen the SC2 trailer.
Unfortunately, you can’t fancy up your horse or other mounts. Mounts you get later will be fancier (like the armored chargers) but you can’t add stuff to them. There is a holiday item, Holly, I think, which will make Silka look like a reindeer, which might be amusing.
I just relied on an engineer guildie who’s obsessive about rep grinding.
