World of Warcraft General Discussion

Last night’s raiding started out meh and ended on an incredibly high note!

First, we spent a while working on Firefighter in 25-man. Still tweaking the strat–too many people dying to stupid stuff, not enough heals going out for the unavoidable AOE damage (so jealous of our Feral DPS Druid)–and it didn’t help that some of our best players couldn’t make it in. (It should tell you something that I was actually in there for two attempts in my DPS spec, given that on that fight I only pull around 3k DPS.)

Around 10 p.m., a number of people had to leave early (11:30 is normally the end of raid), so we split who was left into two 10-mans to work on TotGC10. My group ran into a few interesting speedbumps, due to having a few people with us who’d never done 10-man Heroic (and one who’d never done Anub even on regular).

Two things to take away:
[ul][li]When there’s a tank shouting at you on Vent to move, don’t ask why. Just fucking move. (This message brought to you by the healer who assumed that a safe place to stand in 25-man Heroic was also a safe place to stand in 10-man Heroic. It wasn’t. We wiped.)[/li][li]Do your fucking research if there’s content you haven’t seen yet. And if it’s your first time on a fight and you’ve been lazy, stop to ask us how everything works. (This message brough to you by the guy who got pursued, got his BoP, and then just ran into an open area with it instead of kiting Anub over a frost patch when the buff was about to fall off.)[/ul][/li]
But then! We have 45 attempts to go, and we’re in phase three. It’s a fucking madhouse. My HP is dropping so low I’m slamming ohshit buttons right and left to buy us one more second. But somehow the healers keep us up, and Anub’s health just keeps dropping, and then!

A Tribute to Mad Skill (10 player)!!!

Effective Health is **the **thing to spec for in current endgame content, for a tank.

Yeah, I am NOT looking forward to that one. At least being the tank I’ll have some control over the encounters.

I want to cackle as he kills Mr. Bigglesworth.

I couldn’t get that to drop for me–does it throw fireballs at critters? If so, I’m even more jealous.

Congratulations! It sounds like an exciting night. It’s always nice to go to bed when you ended the game on a good note. Except for the fact that you’re still excited and can’t fall asleep…almost tempted to wake up the wife and tell her about it. Even though you know she’ll just say “oh that’s great dear” and roll over back to sleep.

The benefit is marginal if all you want is stamina (9 points of stamina). The benefit is immense if you take into account the gear flexibility it will give you.

I don’t know if it is worth the trouble of learning a new tradeskill but I dropped skinning for JC and if 3.3 doesn’t come out with something good for LW, I will probably drop LW for BS or Enchant.

Guns, gratz on that achievement. That’s pretty awesome.

Yeah, and you can tell it’s been a good night when you’re grumbling 'cause you have to stay up another thirty minutes to gem and chant the new gear. Talked to a friend on the phone after that, so I didn’t hit the pillow until a little after 1 a.m. Can’t wait to sleep in tomorrow, that’s for damn sure.

It’s the weekend, no sleep for you! Must…play…WoW…
/and run me through ToC regular!

Woo, congratulations!

I’m jealous–my guild has 2 10-mans that get the 10-man TotGC achievements every week, but they’re full and we new folks can’t get in. And I’m sure it’s much more satisfying to get it after working hard for it like you did than to be carried along by a group who can do it easily. I’m looking forward to forming a group and working on earning it. Nice job!

It’s been a pretty good raiding week for my guild too–they got Celestial Defender (server first Algalon-25, the first realm-wide announcement server first in a very long time). I wasn’t in the group, but it still felt good to vicariously experience the glory. And I got my Ironbound Protodrake on Wednesday night! Didn’t expect it–I still had 2 achievements to go, including Firefighter, and they hate doing Firefighter–but we didn’t have the group to work on Yogg+0 so they decided to do some of the hard modes and get people drakes. He’s very purdy and I love him.

Won’t be working on Yogg this week, though–went into Uld last night and discovered that somebody had sneaked in, talked to the Keepers and sent them down. We’re almost certain that it was a disgruntled member who gquit in the middle of the raid Wednesday night because the raid leader wouldn’t commit to him right there (on Vent, in the middle of the raid) that they’d do Algalon again next week instead of holding the raid lockout for more time on Yogg0. sigh Gotta love people and their temper tantrums when they don’t get their way.

Oh, wait. No I don’t.

Woo, gratz!

Now get a Tribute to Insanity.

Thanks to all for the congratulations.

Hopefully after it’s been on farm a little longer you’ll be able to swap in.

Absolutely yes. It’s a really, really great feeling to know that you really contributed.

That’s great! We’re grinding to it ourselves, and I’m deathly paranoid that some guild is going to transfer in, steal the achievements, and transfer back out. I’m so glad you guys were able to make it a home-guild win!

Insanely jealous–that’s totally cool.

:smack: What a douche.

Guns, I knew you were mad, and I suspect that you’re insane as well…gratz.

As for the dropping the Mining and picking up the Jewelcrafting…you guys are probably right wrt Tanks, but for DPS, the JC/BS combo is good for an overall increase of 102 Strength (42 extra Strength on Bold Dragon Eyes alone) while losing 60 Stamina…still a good deal for DPS.

Yeah, it was nice. They’d been working on it for awhile. I don’t think it’s quite the big worry that a 25 man guild is going to transfer in and steal the glory than it would be for a 10 man–getting 25+ quality players to all transfer in for something like that is logistically not that easy, I would hope.

Our server is sad raiding-wise. At the start of Wrath there were three Horde guilds (my old one that fell apart, the one I’m in now, and one other) who were pushing progression, and a couple more a ways behind them. Nowadays, though, my current guild is so far ahead of the second-place guild that it’s not even funny (we’ve got 4/5 TotGC-25, Yogg+1, and Algalon-25 down…nobody else on the server has even gotten one boss down in TotGC-25). The other guild, which was top on the server at the beginning of Wrath, has just lost the will to live–they still limp along doing 25s but haven’t really gotten far. And the Alliance are hopeless. They’ve got a couple of half-decent 10-man guilds, but that’s about it.

Kind of sad to know that if anything ever happens with my current guild, I’d have to transfer off the only server I’ve ever played on in order to raid progression content. But hopefully that won’t happen anytime soon.

It’s not hugely common, but it’s been known to happen.

Same here. We have only a couple of remotely serious raiding guilds on either side (and the top Horde one just disbanded). Borean Tundra was literally at the bottom of the heap for US progression… My guild’s kills have pulled us at least a few steps up, fortunately. Up until a day or two ago, we were four bosses ahead of everyone else (4/5 TotGC), but now one or two other guilds have gotten NRB. It’ll be interesting to see if they catch up.

I’m trying to figure out if I should drop Herbalism and take up Mining. I have skinning already.

Let me explain: I’m a Hunter. I made most of my levelling cashola on skins and herbs. I have a nice but hardly legendary stockpile of 7000g. However, herbs are just annoying right now. They sell, but erratically and there’s still just not as much demand for herbs comapred to ores. Second, I do want to prepare for my new Ctaclysm character, who will take Engineering and another craft skill.

Plus, as a HUnbter, 60 Stamina is a nice bonus. Little of my gear offers that much, and 600 hp’s are a small but handy step, much more than it would be to a tank. Most of my survivanbility, after all, comes from having just enough hp’s to take the damage which happens to hit me at range.

On my server, the only ore that makes any money is titanium. I can sell a titanium bar for 30g or so, titansteel for upwards of 150g. An hour or show flying circles around Wintergrasp can yield a stack or more of titanium plus lots of crystallized stuff and raw gems.

Between JC and mining, I’ve made around 10k in the last few months.

Of course I have 3 80s with maxxed out professions, so I’ve got pretty much all bases covered.

You may call me Taco “Donald Trump” Loco.

I wonder how our counterpart (Winterhoof?) that opened the same time is encountering the same issues. I remember rolling and on the first day already getting general/trade spam for guild recruitments for end-game content. I’m sure we’ve had a lot of guilds reroll just to attempt server firsts.
Now it’s really bad to find a group to do any kind of raiding. With equipment being relatively easy to get you get a lot of wannabes trying to do stuff out of their skill bracket. As i always say, “You can give a kid epic gear, but in the end, they’re still a kid.”

I don’t expect it to be changing anytime soon so keep up the good work, fighting the good fight, etc.

Congratulations!! Sounds like it was a helluva rush.

Last night, our group of regulars got together for the first time in a while to farm reg and H TOC. That was the most fun I’ve had in a while, which I’ve really missed due to RL eating two of us alive. The True-Aim Long Rifle FINALLY DROPPED in my presence for the first time since the AT opened this summer. Lots of “EEE!” and <333 from yrs truly.

I also finished powerleveling engineering with a combination of AH mats and farming to 385, so now I have a nifty parachute cloak and I can attempt to jumpstart dead players. XD

I’m trying to save up for one of those Kirin Tor rings. They’re 6k gold, plus another 1k to upgrade the higher-level equivalent ring, so 7k total. I’m closing in at 4k right now. Need to churn out some more Glacial Bags!

It’ll be nice to have that extra Dalaran hearth. Once I have an extra hearth to Dal and the Tournament grounds, it’ll be hard to decide where to set my main hearthstone!

You should have heard us all shouting in Vent!

Huzzah! It’s so nice when the RNG finally sits up and pays attention.

Sounds like you’re getting pretty close–not that far to go at all! Personally, I think I’d keep my regular hearth in Dal–it’s just so damned convenient that once you’ve got the tourney tabard there’s really nowhere else you need to get to on a regular basis that you can’t get to through a portal in Dal itself.

This thing is incredibly convenient. Just having access to two hearths means you’re more relaxed about using it because you have another option. I’ve got my hearthstone set to Borean Tundra near the border to Sholazar Basin for Oracle dailies, fishing dailies and quick access to the Nexus for heroics.

I’m hoping they don’t nerf the ring in anyway for Cataclysm. Because it’s going to be real convenient to be able to set your hearthstone to wherever you’re questing, and then use the ring teleport back to Dalaran for bank, vendors, and portal to your home cities.
