World of Warcraft General Discussion

You didn’t have to specialize to be able to transmute any of the special elemental cloth. The specialization makes you craft two cloth instead of one per combine. It used to be that specializing was required to craft the bags & clothing from the cloth, but the cloth itself was fair game.

Awesome. A variant on running an instance with a fishing pole (which I’ve done).

I managed to tank the final boss in the Forge of Souls with Unholy Presence (which normally only DPS, and weird DPS at that, use) instead of Frost Presence - we’d wiped, and I’d used Unholy for the extra run speed to run back in through the instance, then forgot to switch back.

Heal in fishing gear - check
Heal with lance equipped - check
Heal without switching out of shadow spec - check
DPS in shadow spec but forgetting to be in Shadowform - check

Yeah I’ve had my share of :smack:
On another note, the normal Burning Dog Wednesday night alt run had to be postponed last night because Mordrin (our healer) was late getting back in town from the holiday. We’re re-scheduling for Friday, for anyone who can make it. Then next Wednesday as usual.

Instead, I had fun running several instances with guildies. My lock ran SM-Lib with Woeg and Cyranus, and then five of us got in the random queue with our 80’s and did heroic Halls of Lightning and Violet Hold. My first random of the night was AN, so my streak of not getting Icecrown dungeons continued.

I subbed in when you left, then - tanked one more instance (UK) with the previous tank (Kahmu) switching to his healer (Ragemode). Fun to do a guild run again - I’ve been remiss about grouping with guildies since (a) the new dungeon finder came out and (b) I switched to tanking more or less full-time. It’s just so easy to click “find a group” and then pretty much instantly start running an instance.

I’m finally getting to enjoy instances. I wonder why it took Blizzard so long to come up with the cross-server dungeon finder tool, but it’s absolutely amazing for someone like me who never had the chance (or desire to wait an hour before a group formed) to run some of these classic dungeons. Sadly, given how rapid the level curve is, I’ve missed out on Wailing Caverns, Stockades, and BFD, but SFK, RFK, and yes, even Gnomer and the lower of the Scarlet Monastary instances have been fun, and my character is now in a lot of blues.

Maybe one of you guys will end up being randomly grouped with my 34 Druid (Rahuul) on Cairne.

Cool, I’ll try that.

I’ll need to go back and see what I did, then. Like I said, I’m sure I specialized in Mooncloth Tailoring, but I could easily be remembering wrong.

Okay, what am I doing wrong THIS time?

  1. I have the ranged (rgnd) macro on my action bar
  2. I have a crossbow on my action bar
  3. And I have 200 wicked projectiles (Arrows)
    on my action bar
Yet nothing happens when I try to sneak up on an enemy and hit him with the arrows gy using “rngd”"

Voice just keeps asking me to aquire a target?

Thanks

Q

sigh Went back to Shatt, and sure enough, I hadn’t done the Mooncloth Tailoring quest. Yet I distinctly remember the quest and it’s instructions, and I honestly remember doing it, yet … I guess I didn’t. So anyway, now I’ve done it

Are you making sure to click on the mob before you shoot? Ranged attacking is just like melee attacking, but from farther away - you have to click on the mob to select it, then attack.

Well, hell!

A few nights in the Loony Bin, and I forget everything y’all taught me!

Lemme try that, then.

I’ll get back to ya’.

BTW: Those Christmas trees I keep seeing? I click on 'em, but don’t get a present.

Just certain ones, then?

Thanks

Q

Mouse over the gifts, not the tree. You should get the yellow gear cursor when you find one you can open.

jayjay, you and the other WoW-Threaders truly have been a “gift” to this ol’ boy!

May 2010 bring you much happiness and prosperity, and thanks for helping me out and being patient!

Thanks

From Quasi/Bill and Wolkie and Silka (all of them!)

I hate to ask a really basic question, Quasi, but did you equip the arrows in the “ammo” slot of your character? Please don’t be offended.

  1. Equip bow. Equip ammo.

  2. Place range attack (“shoot”?) on action bar. Hunters have the innate ability that both melee and ranged will switch back and forth as needed, and autoattack. All others, autoattack only uses melee ability.

  3. Target foe. (Left click, tab, whatever.) IIRC, rightclicking an object both targets them, and “uses” them. In the case of bad guys, this means attack.

You should now be ready to initiate your attacks.

Edit: Also, AFAIK, dragging ammo from your bag to the action bar will do nothing for you. I will have to reverify this, as this may have changed over the years.

I just checked. Hunters now have “autoshot”, located in the Mraksman skill tab. Dragging ammo to the action bar does nothing for me.

<straight face>
Yesterday I stumbled across the quest to go into Old Hillsbrad and kill young Don Carlos and bring back his hat. I easily located young Don Carlos and killed him. Four times. And his little dog, too. On none of these occasions did Señor Carlos deign to drop his hat. I submitted a ticket, but only got the “We’re aware of the issue and are actively working on a solution” runaround. Yeah yeah yeah. Judging by the comments on Wowhead, they’ve been “aware” of this issue for some time now. I’m not fooled. I know what’s going on. Blizzard is clearly catering to the elitists who want their sombreros to be “special” by making it extremely difficult and unlikely that anybody else will get one. Harrumph.

Seriously, though …

It was a lot of fun wandering around and exploring Old Hillsbrad. Hey, there’s Nat Pagle fishing from the dock in Southshore! Whoa, there’s Kel’Thuzad strolling through town with a friend! The shoreline near Southshore uninfested with murlocs and naga! I thought I’d ride West to see if I could catch a glimpse of Dalaran still on the ground, but that’s when I discovered the invisible wall.

While I was in the Caverns of Time I also took a tour through Culling of Stratholme. Didn’t do any quests there - I just wanted to explore. What an amazing difference between Stratholme then and Stratholme now. It was a little bit startling being able to see the open sky while I was in the city. In it’s current state, the whole place feels like a cave.

Made Exalted Champion of Ironforge yesterday. I was a little bit disappointed to discover the IF quartermaster sells exactly the same weapons/armor as the SW quartermaster. Here I am in Ironforge last night, celebrating the New Year by corrupting the morals of my squire. Kid seems quite fascinated with the naked flaming dancing draenei :stuck_out_tongue:

Also, got my Enchanting to 405

Thought I’d share this neat story I found.

And I need to get out of this thread-ya’ll are making me want to re-sign up.

Penny Arcade’s take on the story.

  1. First of all, you’re not hurting my feelings, mlees! I have, and always WILL appreciate the help I get in this thread.

See when I don’t play for a while, I tend to forget stuff, so it’s really me who oughta be concerned about peoples’ feelings!

Okay, with that said,

  1. 1 and 2 in your answer have been done, but I still have probs with #3.

I think that sometimes, I’m also kinda “slow on the trigger”.

Also, I wondered if I might need to buy a quiver for those cross-bow arrows, and that’s what is slowing Wolkie down?

Keeping all y’all’s suggestions in mind, lemme work on it a bit and see what happens.

Thanks!

Q

ETA: Forgot to tell you that Wolkie’s, not a hunter, but a warrior. Would that make a diff?

No, you shouldn’t need to buy a quiver for the arrows. It’s OK to leave them in your bags as is. And as long as you have the bow and arrows equipped on your character sheet (when you press C to see what you have on, it should show the crossbow and arrows you’re using near the bottom of the picture box), you should be able to shoot things.

And yeah, I think that since you’re a warrior, right-clicking a mob that’s far away will give you that error message because the game won’t automatically switch you from melee to ranged attacks per what mlees said. Someone who plays a war more than I have would be able to confirm koff SFG koff.

This makes me wonder if the “ranged” macro you’re using has a line that uses either /tar or /target in it? If so, something may be broken in the macro – and in that case, you’d have to check with whoever set you up with the macro to figure out how to fix it.

Ok, I logged onto my warrior and checked.

He has two skills on the first page of the skills book (the “General” tab): Shoot and Throw.

After you drag the appropriate skill icon from your book to your hot bar, go find some victim.

I left-mouse-click a target to select it. There is a little dot in the upper right corner of the throw icon that lets me know whether I’m in range. (Red is out, grey/white is inside.) I left click on the icon, and my little gnome throws a knife at the target. Since I am on my warrior, my ranged attack is never linked with autoattack, and I have to manually click to initiate each attack. Since, generally, my purpose with using throw is to “pull” a baddie to me, that’s fine. Even “misses” work for pulling.

I don’t know if there are third party mods or macros that allow a warrior to auto-attack with a ranged skill/weapon.

One of the fringe bennies of Hunters is that they can auto-attack with ranged skooting skill. Only wand users (with a skill called “shoot”) get something similar, but IIRC, the client does not auto-switch between wand shooting and staff swinging. The player has to manually switch by clicking the “attack” icon to initiate melee love.

So last night I was slaughtering vrykuls in Jotunheim (Icecrown) last night, when a Valhalas Vargul dropped this little beauty! I haven’t decided yet whether I want to sell it or use it for my prot spec. Selling was the first thing that popped into my head, because Auctioneer was showing a value of around 1800g, and I’ve seen this sword priced as high as 2400g or more on a regular basis when perusing the AH. But for now I’m just going to hold onto it, because I went to the AH to see what it’s really going for right now, and discovered that my server’s lunatic undercutters had gotten the price all the way down to 700g

That being said, I have been making insane (for me) amounts of gold since I finally got around to starting questing in Icecrown and doing the Argent Tournament dailies. A week ago my pally was down to less than 5000g, largely due to the expenses involved in leveling Enchanting. As of last night, I’m up over 8000g.

I’m really becoming more convinced that my main server, Lightbringer, has become horribly overpopulated. It’s consistently showing in the realm list with a “High” population, even at 2:00AM; my other Pacific Time server never goes above “Medium”, even during “peak” hours. I also did AH scans last night on both Lightbringer and Cairne; Lightbringer’s Alliance AH had ~680 pages of auctions, while Cairne’s Horde AH had a mere ~360 pages. Dalaran is still Lag City, even very late at night. I suppose the high population may have something to do with the way AH prices have been crashing in recent months, too.

Visiting the SW bank yesterday, I had a real WTF? moment when I saw this:

http://www.mister-rik.com/hosted/wtf.jpg

That draenei’s gear, aside from her cloak, shoulders, and weapon, was appearing all f’d up, and it was only her, nobody else. Is it reasonable to assume this person was using some sort of against-the-rules model-altering hack?
