You should’ve farmed the turtles instead, they drop Bristle Whisker Catfish and clams containing the meat needed for Goblin Deviled Clams which doesn’t turn green until 185. Doing this also gives you enough turtle meat to reach 250 or so cooking on the Turtle Bisque.
I briefly considered farming the turtles for the clams, but when I did the quest to bring back 10 pieces of turtle meat, I went ahead and farmed up 20 so I’d have some on hand to cook, and only ended up with 2 clams - a drop rate considerably lower than the bear meat. Not to mention the turtles being level 30-31 compared to the bears ranging from 22-26, they take longer to kill and there are far fewer of them to begin with so I’d spend a lot of time waiting around for them to respawn.
Of course, if I’d thought about it I could have farmed the naga and murlocs near Southshore for clams.
Far fewer? You’ve got tons of them along the shore of Lordemere Lake, by the time you’ve killed your way to one end, they will have respawned at the other.
But yes, the murlocks and nagas are better for clams, but that won’t give any turtle meat to save time later.
Just a heads-up - if you haven’t figured it out already, you need to finish a relatively short series of quests in and around that starter area before you can go out into the world. By the time you finish, you’ll actually be level 58 or so! (Don’t worry, they speed up how quickly you get EXP.)
Also, notice how that starting area changes as you do those quests!
It’s a very neat storyline, enjoy it! Plus if you wanted to see the storyline again and didn’t care about spending the time on it, you can make another DK and go through the quests again. (I don’t know if it has to be on a different server or if you can make another on the same server.) I’ve thought about doing this myself!
You can only make one DK on each server.
So, a question.
I’ve been running random heroics for a couple of weeks now with my Belf Pally on Cairne, and really enjoying myself. I’ve noticed though that when we group with a shaman, every shaman seems to have some ability to just wave their hands and spawn a whole slew of shaman totems (usually 4) simultaneously. Now, I’ve only ever played a shaman once (and got bored and deleted him shortly after level 30) so I don’t know the class very well. My question: Do these shamans have some sort of macro set up that lets them spawn all those totems at once, or is it some sort of shamanic ability/talent that they get at higher levels?
Whatever it is, it’s pretty damn cool…
Oh, and while I enjoy running the heroics, I am not enjoying my current cold streak on ‘greed’ rolls. Ran two heroics yesterday, and didn’t win a single greed roll. <sigh>. I need stuff to sell for my Riding[300] skill! I’m still working my way through The Storm Peaks and Icecrown quests, so there’s gold to be had there, but it’s not as much fun as the random heroics.
Oh, and while I’m thinking about it, another question: I was running The Culling of Stratholme yesterday, and after just about every fight a dialog box would pop up asking “A vote is being taken to kick player x from the party. Yes/No?”. The box just kept popping up after every fight, with a different player listed each time. Was someone being a jerk? We certainly weren’t having any difficulties with the run…
It was added in patch 3.2, Shamans get it at level 30.
Sounds like someone was being a jerk, yes. Not much one can do about it other than asking in the party chat why the vote-kick was initiated.
It was a change that came with patch 3.2. Shamans were limited in their effectiveness because every time the group moved, the Shaman would have to replant their little heads one by one again. Only takes 3 seconds, but that’s 3 seconds in which the rest of the party is fighting without the Shaman. So Blizzard implemented the Totem Bar, which allows Shamans to define up to three preset little head arrangements and drop four instantly. It really makes a difference in Shaman mobility.
Yeah, those are the guys. If you’re level 63, you should be all set for questing in Zangarmarsh, which is the next place after Hellfire. You could also mess about in Tarokkar Forest if you wanted. Once you hit 65 or so, you can take a look at Nagrand or the Blade’s Edge Mountains (I find Nagrand a lot easier to deal with and a lot prettier).
Isn’t Lordamere Lake up in Silverpine?
The western half is, but the eastern shore where the turtles are is in the Alterac Mountains.
Thanks Bosstone (and Mogle too).
As I said, I only played a shaman once, and just to level 30, and that was well before patch 3.2. Totems took so long to put down, that I often didn’t bother – just zapped the mob with a couple of spells then hit 'em with whatever blunt instrument I was carrying once they got in close. That totem bar does seem like a nifty concept…
Even with the fancy multi-totem buttons, you still wind up not using totems for the bulk of solo work. Or high-speed group stuff, even. They still have the beefy mana cost and range limits on them, so even if the time cost is reduced they’re still a pain in the butt. Fortunately, most of the totem buffs can now be applied in a long-lasting, more mobile form by other classes now, so in a sufficiently well organized group there’s little reason to use them anyway.
But they have awesome new graphics! If you skim the patch notes it’s pretty funny how often you’ll see side-by-side things like:
But seriously, the new troll totems are awesome.
Totems now have a racial flavor?
I need to read my patch notes more closely…
Ah, okay. Surprisingly, I’ve never been up there on any of my toons (been into Alterac, just not to the lake shore there). I was actually just sort of “passing through” Hillsbrad on my way to Arathi, so didn’t get up into Alterac.
Awww…now it’s (The Armory) in maintenance mode. Also, had to download Adobe 10.
Ohhhhh, it was a wondrous sight to behold, friends and neighbors, as Wolkie, just kept piling up Mag’har bodies on top of bodies and waded in their blood!
We just kept pulling and pulling to that same pile of bodies till we got all 10 (we needed 7 more) beads, and then we took off on Silka to claim our 3% XP!
First time we ever did anything like that, and it felt right good, if I do say so myself!

Thanks, FH, but I left Cairne at 2:30 this morning kinda frustrated, because I couldn’t get my sword to engrave. Maybe now that I have re-started WoW it will work for me, but I tried every way in the world to get that to work and Pang
tried his best to help, but no go…

Thanks
