World of Warcraft General Discussion

Well, I can tell you something I learned when addressing my own Pally’s gear needs. I assume you have Divine Strength for +15% to Str. Str grants 2 AP per point. Therefore, 40 Str is really 46 Str which is really 92 AP, which is slightly less than 1 DPS more than the 80 AP buff. Obviously at level 80 that’s not a lot, but it’s objectively better.

Now, whether that +40 Str is better than +40 Crit I leave as an exercise for the raider.

Do y’all think me and da Wolk’ might need to take us a woman along next time we go shopping?

Thanks

Another patch, another set of bugs. Reports from all over about doors in ICC not opening right, and I can confirm first hand that Saurfang’s runic power mechanics are different. He generates 5bp from each blood boil tick, so even in a well executed 10man, he’s got a mark out at around 70% health. Some 25mans are reporting a mark before the first call blood beasts.

We kept wiping it up when we got 3 marks (out of habit/panic), but he doesn’t seem to gain extra BP from the marks, so had they landed on better healing targets (not the squishies) we might have been able to power though.

I am annoyed - I carried on with the Wrathgate chain and saw the King and this leads eventually to Undercity. However I missed the damn battle - I spent ages killing the ghoul things (which was a fun fight being invincible) but then had no idea where to go next. Finally ended up in the throne room to be greeted with ‘It didn’t have to end this way’ and I am kicked back to Stormwind. Bugger. Off to youtube to find a video of it.

Is it wrong to find Sylvanas exceptionally hot btw? She is dead after all. I’d renounce my Alliance ties and join the Foresaken if she asked me in a heartbeat.

Hi Guys,

WoW n00b here. Up to lvl 21 with my Draenei Shaman.

Are dungeons for lvl 80 chars or are there low level dungeons also? How long does a typical dungeon take? What if you need to get back to real life mid dungeon?

Further to my comment above regarding the Battle for Undercity it seems I missed everything, watching a video on youtube and it starts when you join up with the King at the entrance to the sewers whereas I just rode straight into Undercity and jumped down an elevator shaft. It’s a pity as it looks a lot of fun, oh well have to make sure I get it right next time. Did I miss an obvious prompt telling me where to go? All I remember was being told to join up with the king but no detailed instructions where I might be wrong.

Holy Paladin Librams are pretty underwhelming, I picked up Venture Co. Libram of Mostly Holy Deeds last night and it is only an extra 69 of healing using Holy Shock. Meh.

Hello and welcome.

You can start doing dungeons from level 15 using the recently added Dungeon Finder, press ‘i’ and you’ll get up an interface where you can pick a role then do a random dungeon (for extra rewards) or do a specific dungeon. Typical time early on I’d say is about an hour, maybe less maybe more depending on the group but some are longer than this. Check out Instances by Level for a list of all dungeons and if you click on one of them it takes you to a page with information about it. At 21 you really should try to do The Deadmines it is a lot of fun.

Just adding that if there’s some kind of urgent real life (RL) thing happening, you can just apologize and leave, either by hearthing out with your hearthstone, or by clicking the little icon on your minimap that appears when you use the Dungeon Finder - it looks like a green eye. It is preferred that you set aside enough time to do a dungeon ahead of time - no hopping into one a few minutes before dinner time and then taking off, that kind of thing.

This is a “rolling” event where it will restart itself every 15 minutes or so (I forget how often it seems to run), and multiple ungrouped people can participate at once. People who arrive “early” will wait around for a while, until your side’s leaders (the Horde gets Thrall and Sylvanas) say that it’s time, then you charge in. People who arrive “late” play catchup and miss a lot of the “flavor” events that go on.

You’ll notice a whole lot of pretty, sparkly, wildly-colored gear in the Outlands. There’s a bow that one of my characters used that I started calling the My Pretty Pony bow due to the color combo - check out the screenshot on that page, right-hand side.

It got to the point where I think the designers decided they’d gone overboard. At the start, anything you pick up in Northrend (lvl 68+) seemed to have been hacked out of plain wood, leather, metal, and stone, and you’ll start being glad for the least amount of color in it.

That’s an understatement, there is nothing more annoying than someone going ‘Brb, dinner’ or ‘Hurry up I got to go in 10 minutes’, if you got something planned within the next hour or so don’t join a dungeon group.

Thanks for the answers guys.

On general levelling, I have just cleared Blood Myst Isle and have headed into AUberdine to deliver a letter of introduction. Is this the game leading me to the next levelling area for me (lvl 21) or am I going to have to go looking for an appropriate area?

Auberdine is in Darkshore, which is the Night Elf secondary zone, roughly 10-20. Unless you want to do the Nelf early quests for rep right now, you can deliver your letter to the guy it goes to, return to Bloodmyst to deliver the reply, then head to wherever you want to. I’d suggest Ashenvale, since it’s the closest zone appropriate for your level. Just go back to Auberdine, strike out to the east until you come to a major road, and follow it south. Keep going on that road until you come to a village on an island in the middle of a lake…that’s Astranaar, the major Alliance outpost in Ashenvale. There’s also a questing node that you pass on the way to Astranaar, off the road to your left where the Night Elf-looking buildings are. There’s another Alliance outpost in the zone, too, but it’s way off to the east, near the border of the zone, and it’s more in the 25-30 range in quests.

While you’re in Auberdine, don’t forget to pick up the flight point. You might also want to take the ship to Teldrassil and pick up the Rut’theran Village flight point, too, just in case you want to come back at some point and do the Nelf newbie quests.

Ta,

is there a specific way to find levelling areas for particular level ranges, or is it a “ask and find out” / “look and see” kind of a deal? When you say head to wherever I want to , the issue is that I don’t know anywhere. I have this Draenai char up to 21, and I have done a char up to lvl 10 around Goldhsire/ Northshire but that’s the extent of my geographical knowledge at the moment.

WoWwiki: Zones By Level

Thanks again. Given the names of the areas, finding them will be much easier!

One and Only, welcome to the game! Wowwiki.com is an excellent resource, particularly for background and information about zones, dungeon, professions, etc. Another good resource is wowhead.com which will give you details about gear, quests, and NPCs including player comments. These are often helpful if you get stuck on a quest or can’t find something.

I didn’t notice any bugs last night, but for a while I was getting horrendous lag – 2000-2400 ms. When your instant spells take 2.4 seconds to cast, it’s hard to be an effective healer. I logged in later and it had improved some (down to 600-800 mis, which at least was playable).

Reminder:
Burning Dog Legion (SDMB guild on Cairne) wednesday night dungeon run tonight, 8:30 server time. We’re all about level 60-63, so we’ll use the random DF again and do one of the low-level BC dungeons.

I was leveling my baby mage last night when all inventory-type actions were slowed way down. Combat was fine and latency was slightly above average.

I’ve never had just one aspect of the game slow down like that. Looting, vendors, professions, even moving things around in my bags was painfully slow.

Has anyone ever had this problem?

Do you use a bag add-on? I used to have a problem like that, where the very first access to my bags would almost freeze things up, and of course, I’ve had loot lag before, but not quite as bad as you’re describing.

My computer has been shipped. It’s sitting in the UPS depot in New Stanton, PA, waiting to come across the state. I should have it tomorrow.

Which makes me realize that I’m going to be getting back into the game RIGHT at the beginning of what is probably my least favorite holiday, Love Is In The Air. Yay.
