World of Warcraft General Discussion

Don’t worry. As I mentioned, I cannot afford the book anyway, but I guess I’ll stay away from stripping naked as a fem night elf and dancing for the kids. Also, I didn’t think it was possible to strip naked on the game. All the way? Full frontal nudity???

Or were you joking?

Thanks

Q

Nah, “naked” just means removing all your equipable clothing. Your toon will still be wearing underthings.

jayjay, how do I get to Northrend from Shatt. It’s a whole 'nother continent, right?

Thanks

Q

And what’s a Brazier?

Thanks

I’m still enjoying my Warlock (hit 53 today) but I really miss healing. I was in a BRD pug and watching everyone’s health drop and felt so helpless!

I may re-roll another healer. I just need to decide if I want a pally, or maybe a shaman. I know droods are fabulous healers but I’ve never been attracted to them (or Tauren in general).

Right. You can get to Northrend from either Stormwind Harbor or from Menethil Harbor. There’s a ship in each city that will take you to one of the Northrend starting towns. Stormwind’s ship takes you to Valiance Keep in Borean Tundra and the Menethil ship takes you to Valgarde in Howling Fjord. Look for the BIG ships.

It’s one of those bowls on legs with a fire built in them.

I like the way in Orgrimmar they’re called a “Mighty Blaze” :stuck_out_tongue:

I was also wondering how a brazier is used, and thanks for the directions to Northrend!

Continued PUG Heroic asshatery today…I swear, the last week+ has been the worst I have seen since I started running heroics.

I’ve been running random heroics with my level 80 Death Knight (Blackspear) on Windrunner (the server where most of my toons are - other than the BDL toons on Cairne  ) Today I had one good run - an awesomely quick Occulus run with an excellent group - followed by two disasterous/vexing ones.

First: A Zul’Grub run. After the first three battles, we notice that one of the DPS’ers, a Gnome Mage, is just standing at the back near the entrance, and isn’t contributing anything. Explains why we’re having trouble taking down the mobs. Just as we finish the battle against the four trolls at the bottom of the stairs, the mage makes his way down the hallway and says ‘sorry, was afk’. OK - that happens, though why you would go AFK at the start of a run and not say anything is puzzling. We start on the undead in the next room. Again, the mage just hangs back and doesn’t cast anything. WTF? Because we can’t DPS fast enough, we wipe and have to respawn. Snarls from the others (and me I admit) at the mage, asking him why he’s not doing anything. No real answer from him.

The party leader tries to kick the mage from the group, but apparently you can’t kick someone from a PUG for 5 minutes after a respawn. Whatever. We start on the room again – this time trying to be more cautious on our pulls. Again the mage doesn’t do squat. In fact, he just stands in the doorway until we’re fighting the last group of undead, when he runs into the room and starts looting while we’re still battling. WTF again?? More snarling at the mage who gets all defensive. “Why are you picking on me?” “Because we’re fighting and you’re not casting any spells - and running in and looting while we’re still fighting” is my reply, and it’s the polite one. The party leader again attempts to kick the mage, but the 5 minutes still aren’t up. “Boy, you guys are a bunch of assholes” the mage says. He casts a Dalaran portal, then runs up the stairs and aggros the Troll Boss there (can’t remember its name) and runs back down the stairs. Obviously he wanted to pull the boss onto us and then flee back to Dalaran while we wiped out of spite. Thankfully the boss smacked him down dead before he could get back down the stairs, but the boss was then on us, and though we did our best we wiped again. At that point the tank and healer both said they’d had enough, and abandoned the group, and I followed after respawning.

Second: The next run I got was Halls of Lightning. We had a druid bear tank andS a rogue DPS who were both from the same guild. They were both very good – but the druid was tearing through the instance as if he was on some sort of deadline. We made it past two of the bosses, but the druid over-aggro’d on the mobs in the room just before Loken, and we ended up wiping. When we respawned back at the instance entrance, the druid and rogue didn’t respawn; instead they’d both disconnected. I noticed that it was a couple of minutes after the hour – so maybe they did have a deadline. Still, bailing in the middle of the run like that was kind of a crappy thing to do. The healer decided to leave too, so the two of us that were left decided to abandon the run rather than wait 10-15 minutes for a tank and healer.

Fortunately after that I got an excellent group for the Culling of Stratholme, but I didn’t get the Bronze Drake reins on the Need roll. <sigh>. Still, I’m slowly getting enough triumph emblems that I’m able to start replacing my gear.

Ummm, I don’t think we’re ready for that place yet. Couldn’t find any quests and my enemies are 68’s or higher. Back in Shatt doing some quests in Nagrand…

Thanks

Q

Runestar, is it possible your Mage paid for a power-level, and just wasn’t aware of the strategy required?

Q

You might want to wait until you hit 70 for Northrend, Quasi.

What you say is definitely true. I was fortunate enough to be in a guild that had every HM on farm (except for No Lights, which we got - though I was sat for - two weeks prior to ToC’s release) prior to ToC, and felt that every HM was tuned perfectly and worth the work in learning. Unfortunately, ToC was such a terrible waste of time that I could not stand the necessary farming and had to take my break. I was hoping ICC would be more like Ulduar, but it seems they have moved away from Heroic being a completely new encounter than Normal modes. Ah well, I guess I’ll always have Ulduar.

I have yet to really step foot in ICC, so it’s a bit disheartening to hear that you tire of it already (with Heroic just being opened up). What are the more interesting fights in your opinion? Anything that compares with HMs in Ulduar?

Got totally hacked off in Westfall with my warrior alt. There are no quests to be had. The only 2 I do have are for the same mobs - Defias guys in some farm buildings, and you can’t get near them for other players. Am I missing something here? Anyway abandoned the area and went to Darkshore where I have quests aplenty.

Only two? Off the top of my head I can think of three from the farmer with the broken cart next the road as you enter the zone from Elwynn, two at the farm that one of the first three send you to and at least four over at Sentinel Hill. What level is your warrior? In my experience Westfall is a much better zone to level in than Darkshore.

sorry, realised I had worded it badly afterwards - 2 left At the time I abandoned zone he was level 12 or 13. I had already done the stopwatch, westfall stew, the one where you kill 15 of 2 types of defias mob & killing fields. I had found Sentinel hill and the 2 quests I had were suggested as level 14 by quest helper, and they were quite hard for me, and I had nothing easier to work on 1st. Up to level 16 or 17 now in Darkshore and just did my 1st random with him. Got the Ragefire chasm achievement.

I think I prefer tanking to DPS in dungeon groups. Do I have this right

stay at the front, pull mobs to you using taunt, pull em back if they aggro on someone else. Perform high threat actions when possible. Is that about it?

Oh, right, well there’s three over at the old lighthouse as well, but yes, while leveling in the old world you will have to switch zones often because the level range of quests in each zone can be pretty wide.

That’s the general idea, just make sure you build threat on everything and watch out for ranged mobs in particular as they can be easy to miss and it’s not always obvious when they start nuking your healer. Speaking of healers, please keep an eye on the healer’s mana bar so you don’t rush ahead and pull a bunch of mobs when it is empty.
Just one more thing, do not use Taunt to pull, get yourself a ranged weapon for that.
The thing about Taunt is that it doesn’t generate any threat on it’s own, it will just put you at the top of the target’s threat list and force it to attack you for 5 seconds, but if the mob is already attacking you it doesn’t do anything and if you taunt a mob that hasn’t aggroed anything yet you will end up at the top of an empty threat list. Save Taunt for when a mobs breaks off of you, ideally, barring special fight mechanics, you should never have to use it.

Will look into a ranged weapon. Will also come back and complete the westfall quests I have, if only to get the damn bandanas out of my pack.

Random DF asshattery:

My main (Fury Warrior) FINALLY got into regular HoR after about two weeks of queuing. Unfortunately, it was the worst group I’ve ever been in.

Pally Tank
Shammy Heals
Mage
Me (warrior)
Hunter

After the first four waves, the hunter drops. No goodbye, nothing. We wait a couple of seconds and we get a rogue who can’t get into the main chamber because Sylvannas locked the door. The rogue somehow gets the door open and the instance resets. Much cursing ensues.

In the second wave, I die. I pulled aggro from the tank. The tank gets pissed and accuses me of not attacking the correct mobs. I ask him which order he would like me to kill the adds since he wasn’t marking them*, and he eloquently responds, “fuck off”

Without my expert DPS, the group wipes and the tank initiates a kick on THE ROGUE. Not me. The rogue. I decline the vote and the tank loses his fucking mind. He starts in on the rogue: “He’s only got one epic and isn’t even pulling 1k etc. etc. etc.” Then, when the rogue drops he starts in on the healer: “What a fail healer. You only cast one spell and you can’t even blah blah…” The healer drops. The mage has not said a word the whole time and just drops (I’m guessing) because all the cool kids were doing it.

Now it is just me and the tank. I say, “You were kind of a dick back there. We only wiped once and it was my fault.”

He repeats, “fuck off” and drops group.
Totally unrelated: I got TWO Edge of Ruins in two days!
*I’m sure there was some breach of etiquette here on my part, but I still don’t know what it was.
