Actually, she’s wearing an Aboriginal Loincloth, about the closest thing you can get to a pair of running shorts in the game. Just part of her “Town” outfit. She’s got proper Northrend plate armor for combat
Geez, was doing Threat From Above on my human pally, in a group with a shaman, a hunter, and a warrior. Either the hunter kept using Scattershot or the shaman had some sort of Fear totem going, which meant Chillmaw kept running away from me and the warrior, as well as running off of my Consecrate … Grr.
I did make the interesting discovery that when I cast Greater Blessing of Kings on the warrior, it buffed the hunter’s pet as well. I already knew that if I cast my Greater Blessings and there was more than one of a particular class in the party it would hit every member of that class. I guess a hunter pet counts as a warrior for the purpose of the Blessings. Huh.
Warlock pets are classed with their owners for blessings.
Were I to guess, you probably had a shaman summon their earth elemental, and all earth elementals do is run around willy-nilly and spam an AOE taunt randomly. They’re less controllable than Army of the Dead, and have even less use, but they’ll usually last long enough to be an improvised tank for something low-caliber like Chillmaw.
If that was it (I didn’t see it, but I can’t see what’s going on most of the time during that fight anyway) then it was totally unnecessary, and in fact counterproductive. All it accomplished was making the warrior and I chase Chillmaw around instead of hitting him, as well as dragging Chillmaw out of my Consecrate.
I suspect your “strafe left” key is stuck - maybe some small debris in the keyboard? I assigned the “Q” key to that, my husband has the “A” key; I’m not sure what it might be on your keyboard. Try tapping your “strafe left” key, or if you have that canned pressurized air stuff, blow it under your keyboard keys and see if that works.
I just installed the Recount addon, and I’m kind of curious about just how DPS is calculated. When I take down a standard lvl 80 mob with 12600 HP in about 3 seconds, how the heck does that translate to 1600 DPS? Is it only counting my direct weapon damage? Even that is puzzling, since my character panel lists my weapon damage (over there under “Melee”) as having a range of 1796-2088. How does “12600 HP monster killed in 3 seconds” not work out to 4200 DPS? (or more, actually, since I imagine there’s some “overkill” involved).
i’ve done pillagers, looters, trappers and one type i can’t remember the name of. only got up to red leather banadanas, not silk, never got offered the Defias traitor quest. I have a message to deliver to westfall, ill have a run round Sentinel Hill to see if anyone offers me any quests now I’ve hit 20
One And Only, at level 20, your time might be better spent moving on to the next zone (I think that would be Redridge Mountains if you’re in Westfall). The Defias questline is somewhat interesting, but much less so now that Varian Wrynn is back on the throne. Also, most of the time the people that run Deadmines get boosted by some high level, and at level 20, the instance (another word for dungeon in WoW) mechanics of tank (guy that all the mobs focus on)/healer (obvious)/DPS (damage per second - primary damage dealers) are not yet fully in place. I would suggest, for your first time playing, to go level through questing outside of dungeons unless there’s a great quest reward for it. Though, I haven’t used the new Dungeon Finder at low levels, so perhaps that might be worth trying out for you. Regardless, there are many ways to level, and the Deadmines isn’t the greatest instance (I prefer Shadowfang Keep or even Blackfathom Deeps).
On an unrelated note, this past week I re-started WoW and with my new guild I cleared up to the Lich King in ICC. Now, I know that this is not the best way to experience fights, as I did not have to go through the learning periods that accompany them, but honestly, most of the mechanics I found were rather tired. The only real novel boss was Professor Putricide, and as a healer, I will never get to be the big abomination. However, the LK fight is pretty interesting. We worked up to phase 3, but need to iron out some kinks on the mechanics with the Val’kyr and Defile. I have to say, the encounter with Arthas is pretty epic, and it was cool finding out that the guild I joined was filled with lore nerds like myself that were geeking out about getting smashed in the face by the Lich King himself. Anyone else seen this fight and have any tips? Oh, and does the RP intro get annoying after a while (I suggest it will, though after 12 attempts I was still cool with it)?
My first though, are you sure you’re looking at just that fight? By default Recount will display your average dps since the last time you reset it.
My second thought, Recount will wait 5 seconds since the last you dealt damage before it’s stops counting, so that 3 second fight is acually 8 seconds as far as Recount is concerned, 12600/8 = 1575.
Thing is, while Damage Done is usually accurate, Dps is not, unless it’s measured on a long Tank&Spank-style fight. If you want a somewhat reliable number for you sustained dps you’re going to have to go and whack a target dummy(make sure you hit a level 80 or Boss dummy) for 5-10 minutes or so. One And Only Wanderers, the quest chain starts with The Defias Brotherhood from Gryan Stoutmantle. I suspect you’ve started it but is on one of the delivery quests in the middle of the chain.
The Burning Dog Legion conquered Coilfang Resevoir: Slave Pens last night, with relative ease. We had two or three deaths but never came close to a wipe. In fact we finished in about 50 minutes, so we still had time to do an additional random (which turned out to be Ramparts).
I dinged 64, which led to the following realizations:
There are no Pally skills to learn or upgrade at level 64. What up with that?
These alts are already in the 63-64 range, having done only 3 of the 16 5-man dungeons in Outland (not including raids or heroics). And that’s without using any +10%XP heirlooms (for most of us anyway, I think). At this rate we could do a new dungeon every week and still not move on to Northrend untill 70 or higher.
Good. Yall are catching up to my Shadow Priest. Underbog is a bit of a throwback dungeon to the old world, in that it has a really annoying layout and is easy to get lost in; I’m not feeling super-motivated to join the alt instance group again this week.
In other news, my baby pally dinged 50 last night; time to take a brief break from running instances to get the level 50 pally quest advanced to the point where I need to dive into the Sunken Temple again.
The paladin level 64 spell was Seal of Vengeance (Corruption) / Blood. As these things have seen heavy editing and SoV/C is considered a paladin staple now, it’s probable that you can train them at a lower level now, like water shield and a few others. The level 66 spell got axed in beta (blessing of magic protection) so you’ve nothing to look forward to there, either.
As for “DPS” - Recount calculates DPS by dividing damage done by time active. Time active is determined by a reasonably suitable heuristic but will never be entirely accurate, especially for short or intermittent combat. The only way to get a really reliable estimate is to wail on a stable target for several minutes (or half an hour, if you’re really serious about your statistics!). This is why, when comparing yourself to other players, you should look at the other metrics, such as total damage done. Looking simply at DPS is only one part of a picture. A reckless player could burn brightly, die 15 seconds in, and dominate a “DPS” comparison, looking great by such an estimate despite being entirely useless to the group. WoW chatter about DPS is a good way to come to realize how broadly misunderstood statistics can be.
I hit 80 last night. Got bored of Icecrown so I went over and did quests in K3. The Magnataur questline was pretty cool, and my last quest before 80 was the one where you blow up their cave
I definitely enjoyed played a shadow priest, but there’s not a lot of use for them these days outside of levelling it seems. So I have been playing my rogue instead. Even at 24 I was doing pretty decently in the 20-29 bracket of WSG. I grabbed the flag once and vanished, woops. Lost the flag from that. Later I got the flag again but time ran out and we lost cause the alliance had gotten out to an early lead.
Questing has been fairly boring in the 20s, so I enjoy any levelling I can do in instances or in PVP instead.
(I’ll let FH answer the question since it was directed at her*)
This reminds me about a question I’ve been meaning to ask fellow WoWers for a while:
Do you use the arrow keys, WASD, or some other wonderful thing I haven’t thought of?
I personally use WASD because I am right handed and it allows strafing. Strafing, I thought, was essential to the movement in the game, but a friend of mine uses the arrow keys and he is the best tank I’ve ever played with.
On a related note, I rewired an old Xbox controller a while back to a spare USB I had laying around. There is a freeware driver out in the inter-void for the original xbox controller. I attempted to play WoW with it, but was stymied by clumsy, fat fingers (and a severe lack of buttons)
