World of Warcraft General Discussion

Had a fun run in BRD with my by-now-adolescent Pally, with the craziest, most kamikaze healer I’ve ever seen - I was set up doing my pally thing, spamming consecrate, judgments, avenger’s shield, etc, and he kept running and grabbing more groups of mobs and pulling them to me, luring them into the consecrate and letting me taunt them off of him. It should have been irritating as hell but in fact it worked out fine, and we knocked off about 5 bosses before calling it a night.

Heh, I used to run with a Priest who’d do that when I wasn’t pulling fast enough for his taste. (And I didn’t have a ground AOE peel mobs off him, either–I had to manually grab it all.) I kept threatening to just let him die, one of those pulls, but I never followed through.

Yeah, if I were on a DK or god help me a Warrior I’d have told him to knock it off, but what with the “taunt three mobs off a party member” ability and the Consecrate spam, I just feel a lot more in control of the situation as a pally. (Down side relative to a DK so far - less mobile - I really want to stick to my consecrate circle if I can - and no Army of the Dead panic button.)

We’ve been working on Sarth3D zerg this weekend, which’s been quite an experience. Our group had the lowest dps at 4K and highest an ele shaman at 8K. Even with liberal applications of flasks and haste pots, the best we managed was 2%. Two friggin’ percent. :stuck_out_tongue:

With managing cats in one raid and another, I finally gave into the other officers’ wheedling and went pvping with them to blow off steam afterward. I’m generally only used to WG on my hunter, which is a really different experience from bgs. Color me surprised when I actually had a blast, even in my pve gear. And hey, it’s an excuse for me to haul out my BM spec and have big red raptor omnomnom Ally faces. I also got quite the compliment on my kiting skills too, which pleases me immensely even though I’m no Frostheim or BRK genuflect.

Did you see the WoW Insider post of the epic wipe contest winner? Somebody wiped on Sarth with something around 300 HP remaining. Or maybe it was even under 200… Whatever it was, it was ridiculously tiny.

D’oh! :smack:

goes to look Damn. Just – damn. 233 HP left. I’d be huddled in the corner gibbering after that.

Isn’t Grid awesome? I was intimidated by it when I first loaded it, but I bulled my way through some tutorials, and now it’s just the coolest little toy I could want. Every time I start up a new character, I have some fun tweaking it to do what I need. For my priest, I downloaded an addon that estimates the amount of damage PW:S can still absorb and set it up to display in one of the corners of the health bar. On my druid, all four corners and the center text are set up to display remaining HOT time, so I can see at a glance what’s applied to each person and how long it still has.

I wish to nominate my afternoon’s first PUG’s tank for Worst of Tool Eva. I had just switched specs to healing and jumped in the queue. Of course being a healer I got matched nearly instantly. I come into the place (Gundrak) broadcasting “Need mana” over and over.

The tank rushes into the first pile of trash mobs.

I have no mana. I can’t heal. Tank wipes. Two DPS wipes. Finally, I can heal, pop an earth elemental to tank and spam heals on the remaining DPS until the trash goes down.

I rez everyone. Of course that uses up all my mana. So I say “need mana”. Mind you, everyone else is still healing up and drinking themselves.

Except the tank. Who, at half health and a healer with no mana rushes in to the next pile of trash mobs.

Wipe.

Rez

“What part of NO MANA = NO HEALS don’t you understand?”

That’s when the tank told me to STFU and do my job.

I waited until he started the first boss, which was only about 2.9 seconds from that outburst. Then I left the instance.

Why do I have the feeling he whines a lot about how everyone else but him is epic fail?

Of course, I’ll just half to wait out a short debuff then re-queue (which I did - next group went much better). The tank, on the other hand… he’ll be an asshat forever.

I’d be curious to see what percentage of these “rush rush rush” tanks are warriors and/or bear druids. The thing just occurred to me that, the way Blizz set up the various class’s mechanics, warriors and bear druids end up losing the resource that fuels their abilities (rage) while they wait around for the healers to replenish the resource that fuels their abilities (mana).

73rd Weekly Skill vs. Gearscore Debate

Oddly enough, it doesn’t seem to work out that way as much as you’d think. Pally and DK tanks are at least as bad and maybe worse. I’m not sure why, but it may be that less-skilled or thoughtful players tend to avoid the Warrior and Druid classes. Both are more complicated to excel while grinding levels all the way to 80, so my guess is that people prefer the magic DK “I skip 55 levels of content” and the mystical Paladin “I never die and kill everything by breathing on it before Outland” buttons.

I think y’all keep running into asshole kids on your raids and stuff. Too bad the game doesn’t have a way of letting you know that, like maybe where the guild name appears? Have it read “Asshole Kid”?

City of Heroes actually has something like this. You can rate players on a scale of 1 to 5 stars, and also write notes about them. The rating and notes will be visible only to you. So if someone doesn’t annoy you enough to be /ignored, but they are something of a problem player, you can stick them with 2 stars and write “likes to run ahead of the group and pull too many enemies at once.”

wait, I knew DK’s started at 55, but I thought you took an existing char at lev 55 off somewhere and got them knighted. You mean they just start out the box at 55? No thanks, at least not until I have a char that high by myself.

Yeah, for Death Knights, you create a whole new character that starts at level 55, but this isn’t available until you have a character that is already at or above that level. I do think the beginning quests for DKs is probably one of the best sequences that Blizzard has made for WoW, so don’t completely write it off.

Hah, tell me about it. I’ve been playing my warrior quite a bit, and she’s been in NR for 3 levels now (just dinged 71 tonight), and crikey I have a hard time keeping her alive sometimes. I’m so used to playing a paladin that I get extremely frustrated with the warrior’s complete inability to self-heal; and since she’s still mostly in quest greens, she doesn’t have a huge HP pool yet.

The idea behind DKs is that they’re heroes who were killed in action against the Scourge and were brought back by the Lich King as Death Knights. So they were basically lvl 55 when they were killed, and they’re still lvl 55 when they become DKs, just with a whole new set of abilities.

Given the restriction that you already have a char at that level it sounds more reasonable. I was imagining new DK’s begging for gold and not knowing what the hell was going on as they had 10 mins play time.

Is there a content patch today? I’m reading rumors of a pre-Cat events patch, but I can’t go to any gaming sites here at work. Can anyone who can get to a WoW site and check possibly C&P the patchnotes, if they’re not TOO long?

Thanks!

No patch today, I don’t think. Just your regularly scheduled maintenance. I’ll update if there is a patch, but I highly doubt there will be as the pre-Cataclysm events are probably not due for at least another month or two.
