World of Warcraft General Discussion

There’s definitely at least an AoE component.

And yes, I remember my remark on those things while dpsing on my paladin, after our warrior tank charged in and got munched: “If you can be kited by a paladin, you’re pretty damn slow.” As long as your dps are half paying attention and don’t back themselves into a corner they should have no problem kiting 'em to death.

ETA: oh, and I LIKE STV. Cuddly animals! That I can slaughter without remorse!

Stay away? But…it’s porn…and it’s free. :frowning:

I managed to hit 77 last night. Yay! Flying! Again!

ETA: The heirloom CWF book is on the agenda as soon as I have sufficient funds. Then I get to save up for epic flying…damn, they need to discount that one.

The way we do it (we don’t use the addon, though I’ve heard good things about it) is to, especially on the first fear, have the bitees park themselves in front of their biters about 10 seconds before the bite window, then have the biter wait until nearly the end of the bite window before biting. Of course, there’s always the chance that either the biter or the bitee will get Pact of the Darkfallen, but that’s just RNG. It happens, you deal with it as best you can. This strat works best when you’ve got good DPS, though, since you’re losing some of the biter’s DPS while he/she waits for the right time to bite. Still, for groups who are still getting used to the fight, a small DPS loss is a fair price to pay for being able to bite quickly and efficiently. Having a group member go insane is almost always a wipe, especially for newer groups.

Another helpful tip, especially on 25 man when it’s sometimes hard to target a particular person in a hurry–turn on friendly nameplates, and set them so they don’t overlap. Then you can quickly click on the nameplate of your bitee and find them. Even better is to use the “TidyPlates” addon, which makes nice little easy-to-click nameplates (this addon, with its “ThreatPlates” module, is also great for tanking.)

We got Heroic-10 Festergut, Rotface, and Blood Queen last night. We did Blood Princes on normal mode, since we heard it was a bitch of a fight and we only had about half an hour left. It was a good decision, since BQL is actually not all that hard on Heroic mode.

Speaking of saving on epic flying, I seem to recall that some of the flying trainers are aligned with specific factions (for discounting purposes) - is the one in Thrallmar aligned with Thrallmar? Cause it will make a difference as to where my SPriest goes shopping.

Orgrimmar. They changed it a patch or two back to give you a better discount. Do NOT go to the one in Shadowmoon Valley; it’s unfactioned, so it never gives a discount.

I dinged 80 a couple of days ago (yay), so I finally got to finish out Northrend DungeonMaster. Yesterday I played all day and looted over 50 badges for 50 Dungeon & Raid Emblems and was able to purchase an i245 ring from the Triumph vendor in Dal and my first piece of t9 conquest gear. I also only need to finish Ahn’Kahet, Gundrak, and Nexus to get Northrend Dungeon Hero.

Grats on dings, kills, and achievements, all and sundry!

I think part of my hatred for the zone comes from the way it was when I was questing in it: no mount (until 40, at which point I was pretty much done with the zone), only one Alliance FP (all the way at the southern tip, in BB, with a lot of the quests up at the northern end, especially the early quests), and those god-damned Kurzen Medicine Men being the only ones who dropped the Jungle Remedy.

As has been observed, Thrallmar is Orgrimmar. Warsong Hold in Borean Tundra is Warsong Offensive–I know for my Undead Mage, her WO rep was actually higher than her Org when she finally got the cash for epic flying.

lvl 44 now. I have only 2 pieces of plate. Am I right not to go looking in AH? I should wait for dungeon drops & quest rewards right?

ETA I won a need roll on some mail in a dungeon - it was an improved chest piece from what I had. I traded it to another player when he asked because I should get plate soon whilst he is new to mail. Was this the right thing to do?

Quasi, Wollkie and Silka, playin’ alongside the “power hitters”!

Schweeet!

I started off on Howling Fjord, BTW

I think it depends. If you’re doing okay in your current gear, and aren’t flush with cash, I’d hold out for drops/rewards unless you have a piece you really need to replace (say something 10 levels below you). You can check the AH for good deals but don’t spend a lot on something you will probably end up replacing soon anyway.

For me, with my pally that just hit 40, I immediately checked the AH for suitable plate. But that’s because 1) most of my healing gear is cloth or leather, so I’m trying to replace that; 2) caster plate drops/rewards are rare in Azeroth; 3) I’ve got about 4,000 gold on this server.

Even so, the only gear I found was a pair of plate pants “of the Eagle” (stam & int) :frowning:

44???

Holy shit, didn’t you just START???

Grats, BTW, OAOW!

Quasi

I did that with my pally I just levelled up and it worked fine (though I had shoulders and a chest piece of heirloom gear from my level 80); by about level 50 I had most of my slots filled, though I didn’t get plate gauntlets until about 55. In particular, the last piece of Mauradon is great for plate rewards.

i am on my 2nd month now. will have to type in /played and have a looksee. I also have a lvl 27 lock and a lvl 14 hunter. The lock used to be my main, but I prefer tanking for now.

IMO, you almost never need to buy anything until you hit max level. Most of the best pieces are found in dungeons, and you can easily queue for specific ones if there’s a boss you know to drop an item you need. 'Course, if you’re flush with gold and a piece is particularly outdated, it might be easier for you to just buy something.

Depends. If it was a level 40-plus Mail piece, it should definitely go to the Hunter or the Shaman, because it will be itemized for them (and itemized very poorly for you, containing stats like Intellect or Spellpower). You shouldn’t ever be rolling on a Mail item like that *unless *no Mail-native class needs it. (And even then, it would have to be a pretty big upgrade over what you’re currently wearing.) If it was a pre-40 Mail piece, you have a better claim to it. The stats would also be geared more towards you (although an Enhancement Shaman could make use of a pre-40 DPS Mail item).

That’s the general consensus (at least as far as giving advice to ME is concerned!:))

Also, I think it’s recommended you don’t buy anything from a vendor in the way of weaponry/armor, although I buy my arrows there (and I always buy 400 at a time now, since I’ve started using them to pull a LOT, I also tend to run out a lot.

Also, (again in my case, okay?) I buy a LOT of consumables for my Human Alliance Warrior (mostly from a vendor, but if I see super healing potions in the AH, and didn’t get any in a drop, I’m likely to buy from there). This has served to “train” me to look at my health before running fighting another bad guy at only 44% green!

As you can tell from my latest screenshot, we go pimpin’ a LOT in AH. and here’s why: I just haven’t gotten the drops I need at the strenth I need, and I stay away from raids because I don’t understand the strategy.

Again, remember the caveat: This is “Quasi’s Way”. okay? I’ve needed a LOT of help getting here and I am very fortunate to have gotten it from everyone in this thread.

Thanks,

Q

Deleted…linky no worky.

Forgot to mention: I “buy out” every time in AH.

ducks and runs from SFG, et al.

Oh-Oh! Looks like I can’t fly Silka in Northrend. That’s gonna make it a bit tougher. Also those crawler-thingies are 2 levels above us, so we have to be VERY judicious in our ARMS usage.

Q

Yes, unfortunately you can’t learn Cold-Weather Flying (the flying skill for Northrend) until you’re lvl 77. Blizzard doesn’t want people to completely bypass the whole zone until they’ve walked it at least once.
