World of Warcraft General Discussion

On my Disc Priest, I use a combination of ClassTimer and Grid to monitor that. I have Grid set to put a border around anyone who has Weakened Soul (and a different border around anyone who has an active PW:S). Then, I can select any particular person to see the exact time left on their WS debuff. (I have Focus bars enabled on CT, too, so I can always see buffs/debuffs on my Focus–usually the tank–without having to actively target them.)

Ooh, I should snag that. What does it do, throw a number up on their box?

@lizardling: PI = Power Infusion.

You have to set it up as such, but yep. I have it displayed in the upper right corner of the player’s grid box as a number, which changes colors once it dips below a certain threshold (I forget if it’s percentage or absolute number based). If you find the number too inaccurate – although I don’t see that it would be that big an issue – you could easily set it to just be a box or border and have it change colors as it drops below 50% and 25%, or whatever you prefer. The addon’s at WoWAce.

Cripes. Alliance just went to the furries. Guess it’s time to reroll again.

lolwut?

Probably referring to the smexy (if you’re into that kind of thing) female Worgen pics released today.

Aha. I did see footage of the model’s walk and sitting posture a couple weeks ago, which was pretty slinky, but apparently it was using the male graphics so I couldn’t judge.

It’s not really much different from the sexy space goats anyway, so meh. I don’t understand active furry hate anyway. I know furries can be annoying, and I’m all for mocking them then, but actively hating them? Again, meh.

They just squick me the hell out. I try to be tolerant in practice–I try to remind myself that furries have about as much relation to beastiality as BDSM has to actual rape–but in private, I still think they’re groady and creepy.

When you’re in a disparaged minority (role-playing game nerd), you need a smaller minority to hate on to feel better about yourself. Basic human nature.

Yeeeah, but in the same vein, seeing a bunch of wolfmen and women run around is to furries as seeing all those warlock succubi running around is to BDSM. It’s just weird that the mere presence is enough to drive someone away.

Now, if someone actively makes a nuisance of themselves in trade or something, sure.

 Or some people are just grossed out by the things that turn other people on. I’m sure I have plenty of kinks that would shock and disgust others, including some furries.

It isn’t just furries that weird me out–it’s the sexualized anthropomorphized animals themselves. Something about them is just, I dunno, creepy to me. Maybe it’s hitting some uncanny valley button.

Question about gemming my mage’s gear - should I just be gemming straight INT, or both INT and Spell Power? Or what?

Never gem Int as a mage. You should be gemming for spellpower primarily. If you need to hit socket bonuses or activate your meta gem, use sp/crit, sp/haste, or sp/spirit gems. (Crit or Haste depending on your spec. Arcane wants Haste primarily–Fire wants Crit.)

Yeah, I have to say that despite my tendency to roll female toons and my desire to have a worgen when Cataclysm is released, I’m not a fan of the models shown on MMO for this exact reason. They just seem… unseemly.

Sorry I haven’t been around in a while, I’ve had RL hit me like a dumptruck. But, I have good news everyone! I’ve perfected a plague… er, we killed Putricide and Sindragosa HMs this week (Sindragosa on Monday and Putricide tonight)! Was pretty awesome picking them both up in the same week (though not the same reset). We had worked pretty hard on Putricide, but were hitting a wall at 30%, so we hard switched to Sindragosa and got an amazing diarrhea kill (had like 4 people alive at the end, lol). Putricide was the same way, but felt smoother for some reason. Anyway, only Heroic LK left, though I think we’re going for our 25-man drakes this next reset (which will mean we won’t be able to pull LK due to All You Can Eat being a rather tough achievement to get on normal, let alone Heroic).

We’ve been pulling Heroic LK in our 10s rather sporadically. I’ve been forced to play someone else’s Disc Priest on these attempts instead of my Resto Druid, which makes me a sad panda. I guess the whole “bring the player, not the class” doesn’t apply to the hardest (current) fight in the game. Ah well. I have to say, watching all the timers and timing my PW:Shields so that they stop every Infest can be harrowing when avoiding Shadow Traps and keeping tanks alive when the holy paladin gets picked up by the Val’kyrs. It’s such a tightly tuned fight, I’m simply stunned by the amount of concentration and skill that it must have taken Paragon, et al. to get it without the buff or just with the 5% buff. I know it’s just a game, but I play this game quite a bit, and think I’m rather good at it, but seeing some of these encounters with a 15% buff and getting my ass handed to be repeatedly makes me have some serious respect for those Finns (or is it Fins?).

Hope everyone’s travels in Northrend/Azeroth/Outland are going well.

Grats Daedelus and wb.

I like the female Worgens, I was going to roll a male Worgen mage but not now.

Our guild roll and alt and level together call hit a stumbling block for me - after half an hour on my 13 rogue I remembered why I gave her up, not my thing and she will become my bank alt when Cataclysm hits I think. So I rolled a nelf druid and got him to a sliver under level 10 last night, my first druid and a lot of fun so far and really looking forward to getting bear form.

I had almost given up on the Dal fishing dailies – I already have the weather-beaten fishing hat, jeweled fishing pole and high test eternium fishing line, and I hadn’t gotten anything of much value for a long time – a handful of gold if I was lucky. But Monday night I got the Sand Crawler pet! I didn’t even know that existed. Now I’m 63/75 of the way to the “L’il Game Hunter” achievement. If only I could get that stupid rat from the sewers…!

The BDL alt group was scheduled to do Black Morass yesterday. We had four members and needed a fifth, but we were afraid that finding a pug would take a long long time because of the prereqs needed to get in; so we invited Yeticalya (80 pally) to come with us. He had to do Durnholde first, so we blew through that and then did BM petty easily (I feel like having an 80 with us was kind of cheating, but we made him stick to healing, more or less). I’m just a hairsbreadth from dinging 69 now.

While tooling around on wowhead.com reading up on the Loremaster achievements, I discovered that installing the wowhead client and helping them track game data was actually the best thing I could do for Loremaster! Basically, I just collected my toon’s quest completion data and uploaded it to wowhead’s character profiler, which allows me to compare quest data with their database, filtered by zone. Now I can just go zone by zone and look on wowhead to see which quests I’m missing. It’s pretty cool – here’s what it looks like. Smexy.

Very slick! I just use the Everyquest addon, which keeps a list in-game. Blizzard adding the ability for addons to track which quests are completed was a great move.

My husband thinks the female worgen look like anthropomorphic deer with long acrylic nails on. (I was thinking they’re going to appeal to the yiffy-leaning furries, myself.) Why do they have to be cutesy, of all things? Is there a rule that Alliance can’t have scary female characters? (Insert joke here about female dwarves.)

Raid postponed again last night–didn’t have the right people on. On the plus side, that meant that a few folks (many on alts) and I broke off to do an ICC10 run, and we were glorious. We burned through that place like butter, one-shotting everything up to Sindragosa, which neither tank had tanked before, I’d only seen once, the other tank hadn’t seen at all, and several other players at least hadn’t seen on those toons, if at all. It only took us three tries to down her–both wipes were with only 500k HP left on her, too. And the Hunter realized she’d been doing something stupid with one of her stings (something involving downranking, I think), so the first wipe probably should have been a kill, anyway.

It was getting late, so we only had time for a couple of attempts on the LK, which made me sad–Kingslayer was so close I could *taste *it. I’d forgotten how amazing it was to run with a group of people who all know what they’re doing (and are a sterling recommendation for skill>gear; we had quite a few players in the low-to-mid 5k range, including the other tank, who had maybe a 5200 GS). In the two or three attempts we had, there were no problems with getting him to phase 2, so I’m sure that if we would have had another 30-60 minutes to work on it, we’d have downed him. The biggest problem is just getting everyone used to running out ahead of the Defiles. Fingers crossed that we can find another time this week to finish up. If nothing else, I’m hoping that we can find a time when most of us can make it, then swap in experienced guildies who want to get their 10-man achievement.

I have to say, it was an awesome fight to be tanking. There was something just so… epic about it. The whole time I was standing there, I couldn’t stop thinking, “Holy shit, the ***Lich fucking King ***is trying to bash my face in right now. And I’m *taking *it.” Of course, that made it a bit silly an hour later when I ended up with H-HoR for my daily, and Jaina was yelling at me to run away. Dude, lady, I was just tanking this guy earlier. You’re a boss-level NPC. I’m pretty sure the six of us should be able to take him down.

Still no new gear drops, but I did pick up my 264 non-tier badge chest, and after my Heroic last night, I was up to the 95 badges I’ll need to buy my T10 legs as soon as I get my first token. That means that all my Frost badges from here on out can finally go toward upgrading my poor, neglected DPS set.

To expand on what’s already been said:

1.) Gem for Hit to the cap. That will be 17% total hit, minus any talents you have to reduce that total. (The Frost tree has a talent that adds to Hit for all spells, while Arcane has one that does it just for Arcane spells. So Arcane Mages–who probably have both the Arcane and Frost Hit-related talents–will need the least hit, Frost will need a middling amount, and a Fire Mage will need the most.)

2.) Pick your meta gem. I forget which one you want, but my Mage has it. (Look up Smarati the Undead Mage on Eldre’Thalas.)

3.) Get enough gems to activate your meta and stick them in sockets where they’ll activate the best non-red bonuses, then gem straight SP for the rest of it. Like winterhawk11 said, gem SP/Haste, SP/Crit, or SP/Spirit. Like Arcane, Frost prefers Haste to Crit.

Awesomely done! Those are two of the only three our 25-man team is missing, too. They’ve been beating their heads against Putricide and having problems with getting the right people online–a combination of RL issues + people not wanting to log on when all it means is wiping for a couple of hours. Sigh.

Side note: I love that achievement, just 'cause it proves that I’m not the only person who constantly reads Mystic Buffet as the thing you eat rather than the thing that hits you. (Oddly, I don’t have the same problem with other buffets in the game.)

ISTR someone mentioning that Blizz straight-up said that BTPNTC didn’t apply for Heroic LK. There’s a very definite balance of skills that are needed for that encounter.

I really don’t know what the hell is up with them. I haven’t even seen the models yet–I went “yuck” as soon as I saw the leaked Hallow’s End masks, before they were even an official race. The male Worgen don’t bother me at all, probably because they’re not so overtly sexualized.
