World of Warcraft General Discussion

This is getting ridiculous. One of our guildies was hacked (the second one in a month) right last night while a bunch of us were online. Fortunately a friend of his was able to get our attention, and I demoted guildie as fast as possible to trial rank before anything was taken while he got in vent with a few of us to work out the problems. Unfortunately, this guy is – well, was – our second tank healer for ICC. :smack:

He had just gotten an authenticator and hadn’t quite gotten round to putting it on but at least he was able to change his password and (I hope) put it on so he could start doing damage control.

Argh.

At least Arh’s to 77 now and has her wee mitts on Guardian Spirit as a result. I suspect GS will become my third major glyph when I finally get those last 3 levels which ought to happen by the weekend. I’m already using Renew and Flash Heal, but all things considered, I suspect I’ll be trading out Flash Heal for Prayer of Healing since now I only really use FH to top off people and trigger Serendipity.

Hey, I’ve just been reading up on Mechanar for our BDL run tonight, since I’ve never been in there. Can anyone give me any tips? How long should it take? What are some tricky fights to prepare for? Anything in general I should know to make the run go more smoothly?

So, I’m always a little nervous about doing dungeons on characters that I’m not that familiar with and whose gear isn’t really the best, but I’d like to try leveling my druid by running instances instead of just questing. Would some folks who know about druids take a look at her and let me know if she’s geared well enough for it?

I’d be doing it as Resto, most likely (faster queues)–her gear is pretty much the same either way since I haven’t had a lot of luck getting much/any differentiated gear yet. Right now I’m working on getting enough Triumph badges on one of my 80s so I can transfer her to his account and give her all the heirloom gear (chest, shoulders, staff, and trinket).

So…you think she’d be okay in the Hellfire instances and maybe early Coilfang? Any advice on healing? I’ve literally never run a healer in an instance before (she spent most of her career being dragged along behind my uber-geared 80 DK tank along with her Refer a Friend counterpart–she only started doing things on her own when she hit 60).

Thanks!

Perhaps you didn’t get for gearscore, but that is what anyone who inspects you is going to think. At any rate Mirror of Truth is available for 40 heroism badges or you could get either a Darkmoon Card: Death or the str version of DMC:Greatness(would probably be you best option, only it’s fairly expensive) from the AH.

Hey Quasi. I’m not on your server, but I can tell you if it was me, I’d just feel bad taking some of the gold/items in the guild bank. I don’t know how explicit you state it, but maybe as a guild message? Plus when I was first starting out, I didn’t know what I’d need money for. Tell nubs that the money is there if they need to buy bags, profession/class upgrades or their first mount, which is what I found I needed money for. Do your nubs know you’re totally okay with them using guild money if they need it for those things?

Resto druid chiming in here. It’s been ages since I healed in Outlands, but I leveled my way through dungeons so maybe I can help. First off your gear is fine for healing so don’t worry about that. Your spec looks okay, but I’d respec if you have the gold and grab a few talents you missed. Master Shapeshifter is something you’ll want since you’ll be in treeform while healing and that will increase all your healing by 2%. I’d also suggest to go all the way down the tree to grab Wild Growth, I love love love that skill especially in places like Blood Furnace where the melee can’t help but step on mines. Here’s my armory if you’d like a spec to grab ideas from: http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Cairne&cn=Kahmu

As for actual healing I like to toss a Rejuvination on the tank as he’s running in and follow it up with a Regrowth and a Wild Growth if I’m expecting some AoE damage i.e. those mines in Blood Furnace. If anything it would be a good idea to pick up the Glyph of Swiftmend, it makes for a nice “oh shit” button without having to worry about the casting time of Healing Touch, plus you get to keep the Rejuv/Regrowth on that person. I was pretty nervous healing Outlands because it was my first time going resto, so you aren’t alone in that regard. The only real tip I can give is don’t panic! People are going to die sometime and it’s okay, that’s what Revive and Rebirth are for.

Looks like I should farm King Ymiron and Paletress for Vestige of Haldor and/or Banner of Victory, respectively. Any quest-reward trinkets out there are long gone, since I’ve done pretty much all of the quests and earned Loremaster of Northrend quite some time ago.

I don’t worry too much about that, and nobody’s ever said anything to me about it in-game. I don’t raid, so I’m more going for getting my paladin ready for Cataclysm and making her look the way I’d like her to look. It’s why I’m going for the off-set iLvl 264 chest piece rather than the iLvl 251 T10 chest - the off-set chest and belt (and gloves) “match” my Raging Behemoth’s Shoulderplates appearance-wise, and in any case the basic T10 chest would be only a marginal upgrade from the Titanium Razorplate chest she’s currently wearing, since without raiding I’m not going to get the token to upgrade the T10 from iLvl 251 to 264. And the basic T10 shoulders are a downgrade from my existing shoulders. If I can save up the Frosts I might go for the T10 helm and legs (a plate armor … dress? Who thought that up?)

But as evidence that GearScore isn’t my motivation, I went with the Triumph libram rather than going after the Frost Libram, cuz … it’s better.

I’ll look into those.

Following on to Shin Kell’s suggestions, I’d also offer this talent tree, customized for level 63. Ignore talents that boost Healing Touch; it’s simply not your best spell for general use. Properly talented, Rejuvenation and Regrowth handle 90% of your healing. Make a macro that binds Nature’s Swiftness and Healing Touch together; it’s a good panic button much like a Pally’s Lay On Hands, with a shorter cooldown.

And when you learn Wild Growth, for Elune’s sake train it up. I ditzed around trying to heal heroic groups with a rank 1 Wild Growth for weeks until I realized my mistake.

Oh, I believe you when you say that Gearscore got nothing to do with it.
It’s just that it’s one of those things you see far too much these days, people base their gear choice on how it affects their GS rather than their performance(those hit trinkets in particular are common since they’re the only trinkets above ilvl 200 that are really easy to get).

Cool! Thanks, **Bosstone **and Shin Kell. I’ll update her spec and do what you suggest.

Bosstone, re: the spec you suggested–what do I do with the rest of the points (in other words, do you have the full version of this spec someplace, so I can keep updating her as I go?) I didn’t compare your suggestion and Shin Kell’s in detail, but they look similar–I’m assuming I would be in good shape just filling out with that, yes?

I really appreciate the advice. I DPS. I tank. I’ve never healed. It’s scary and exciting.

That’s amusing to me, because healing is the only role I’m really comfortable in. Tanking makes me break out in a sweat (and DPSing kind of bores me). I’ve made it a long-term goal to have a max-level healer in each class, eventually – Priest is there; pally is getting closer. I’ll probably wait for Cataclysm to roll my Goblin Shammy!

I love healing. I’ve psychoanalyzed exactly why, too, but I won’t bore anyone. In some ways it’s simpler than tanking and DPSing, in some ways it’s way more frenetic. I’m only comfortable when I have a healing spec to fall back on, too; my Alliance druid is planned to be PVP Balance/something (PVE Balance or Feral), and I’m a little nervous about not having a Resto spec. Next toon I level will be a Priest or Shammy, for certain.

Shin Kell is a raid healer, so Kahmu’s talent tree is quite good, but this is what I consider the core of a healing spec. IMO, nearly all of that is pretty much non-negotiable, but you do have 3 more points you can put anywhere you like, and a skilled resto druid might make a case for changing around some of the talents. But I guarantee you that spec will serve you very well in dungeons and heroics, and wherever you decide to put the extra 3 points is sheer bonus.

Your realm forum (on the official WoW forums) should have a list for each faction with high-end combines. There will be a list of the current top recipes with the names of the people who can make them. Add those people to your Friends list, and whisper them to ask their combine fees. Then check material prices on your server–you can probably get everything you need for 4k to 6k. Materials + a combine fee will probably total you 5k to 7k gold. Dunno if that’s in your price range, but it’s definitely more reasonable than what you’d pay just buying the boots straight.

Dunno how it goes for 60s, but queues blow for my healer in his 50s. Probably still a bit faster than DPS, but still a long wait compared to tanking.

Healers traditionally get robes, and Holy Paladins usually share tier models with Ret and Prot. So sometimes you get skirts. I gotta admit, I’m jealous.

ETA@winterhawk11:

Dunno how it will compare to what other people here have been offering, but you can also check out Caponus, a Resto Druid on Stormrage (AFAIK, he’s the only Caponus on any US server). He’s my pocket healer, and he’s amazing. Note, of course, that he’ll be set up for healing hardcore endgame raids, though, which may not be applicable to your current needs.

It’s funny–I absolutely love tanking. Once I got past the initial “OMG! I have no idea what I’m doing!” stage, I love the feeling of having the whole group’s safety in my hands (well, except the healers, of course, who have my safety in their hands!) It’s a real rush, especially in raids. DPSing is a lot of fun but I find that I get very competitive when DPSing (my main is a mage and his whole RP backstory is that he is a very good mage–which means I have to keep up with the state of the art and stay competitive with the other DPS or I don’t feel like I’m doing him justice). But healing just seems so scary to me because it seems so reactive–plus the whole idea of watching health bars and still having to pay attention to the fight is kind of intimidating for me. At least as tank or DPS I just have to watch the mobs and the threat meter.

It’s easy to get tunnel vision while watching health bars. I’ve died more than once on my Holy Pally because I saw my health drop and tried to cast to heal it rather than move away from the Whirlwind first. :stuck_out_tongue: That eases with experience, though. Once you get comfortable with watching health bars, it’s easier to split attention between them and the fight.

Also get Grid and GridClickSets. I can’t get it now, but I can give you an excellent guide to setting up Grid for a Resto druid later, which makes it a ridiculously effective healing aid. Almost too effective, and even unnecessary, some might say coughShin Kellcough:smiley:

I THOUGHT I moved out of it, but I realized too late it had splash damage. :frowning:

The thing is, though you have to pay attention to the fight, it’s only to the extent of “am i standing in fire or is something trying to eat my face?” - other than that, you don’t have to care (and probably won’t even be aware) what the monsters are doing out there. I guess on some raid bosses (and one heroic boss I can think of) it’s good to know when the tank is about to take a big hit, but even that isn’t going to shift you very far off of your routine.

Here’s a question for ya’s: what should I gear up now?

First up, I am planning to grab

The Shoulderplates of Enduring Order

Sigil of Insolence

I’d like the Glyph of Indomitability, although that’ll be another 50 Triumphs. With the other two items I can probably run as tank in heroics and get more Triumphs faster.

Glyph: Glyph of Indomitability - Item - World of Warcraft

Any comments? I know my trinket now is a bad choice, but I have had limited opportunities to get better ones. That was something I picked up way, way back in the day for easier soloing.

With my holy pally I noticed a huge difference in queue times when I hit Outland. In my fifties it could easily take 10-15 minutes to get a group; since hitting Outland it rarely takes more than a minute or two; it’s often instant. I ascribe it to the infusion of DKs (tanks and dps) at that level.
