Cool. I’m sure you’ll get her down soon, though she can be a pain in the ass. As far as PP goes, yeah, he can be a tough nut to crack sometimes, especially when you’re just having a bad night. I’m sure you’ll steamroll him tonight.
As for the RP on the Shadowmourne LK kill, I believe that there isn’t anything on the actual kill itself, but quite a bit of really cool stuff when they turn the quest in to Darion (I believe that’s correct). So, if some people aren’t interested, I would definitely request to be in there just to see the RP when they turn the quests in (because it’s really cool) if you do get sat.
We’ve spent this week just focusing on finishing our achievements for our 25-man drakes. All that most of us need is Neck Deep in Vile (which, unfortunately, you still need for your 25-man drake), so we’ll be doing that on Monday (we’re done for the rest of the week). We did a lot of attempts last night, but for some reason, despite our comp being nigh perfect for it, people just failed. Hard. We’ll get it on Monday though, so I’m looking forward to that. Also, should get our first 10-man Heroic LK kill on Sunday or Monday. We got to 34% with our first time being in the Frostmourne room this past week, and keep getting RL shit preventing us from putting in real attempts. So, if we can get one solid night of attempts in, I can almost guarantee a kill.
Yeah, trash is the problem, since I’m almost always AoE-ing on that. I’ve learned, when casting Blizzard, to keep a very close eye out and move forward or backward a step to stop casting as soon as the mobs are down, rather than finish out the channeling unnecessarily (unless I’m misunderstanding channeled spells - it looks to me like they drain mana at a steady rate as long as you’re casting, and stop consuming mana if you stop casting mid-channel?) Most boss fights aren’t so much of a problem, unless they have lots of adds (like Hadronox). And bosses like Anub’arak and Herald Volazj (or however you spell that) really run me out, thanks to the adds and Insanity, respectively.
One thing I’m doing now to conserve mana in single-target situations is use Frostfire Bolt in place of Fireball. While its base damage is lower, it costs less mana, has a shorter cast time, and for some unknown reason it crits much more frequently that Fireball, which means Hot Streak procs more often for a free, instant-cast Pyroblast.
My mage also loves getting grouped with a pally who has Replenishment going
On different topic, during a recent King Ymiron fight on my mage, the healer pointed out to me something I hadn’t realized: I can Blink out of that annoying Fear thing Ymiron puts on everybody, and start blasting him with more fire while everybody else cowers and he’s busy doing his summoning stuff! Hooray, a boss fight my mage is better at than my pally! (I don’t think my pally can get out of that Fear thing, at least not more than once.) That fight’s always especially aggravating on my pally because it seems when she comes out of the fear, she has time to run to wherever Ymiron has moved to and get in maybe one hit before he fears everybody again. So on my pally, as soon as she comes out of the fear I hit my Exorcism hotkey (assuming Art of War is up) and then run over to get my one melee hit in.
It’s kind of amusing to me, now that I’ve got two toons running heroics, how people LOL at paladins just having to hit 2 buttons all the time. I realize they’re exaggerating, but I’m not sure where that comes from. My paladin’s abilities require a lot more complex button-mashing than my mage does:
Paladin, both on trash and bosses: Judgement, Crusader Strike, Consecrate, Divine Storm, Exorcism every time Art of War procs, and then hitting whatever’s off cooldown as often as possible, throwing in Holy Wrath if there’s a crowd of undead or demons, and finally Hammer of Wrath as soon as it’s available.
Mage on trash: Flamestrike, Blizzard, Flamestrike, Blizzard, Flamestrike, Blizzard …
Mage on bosses: Pyroblast, Frostfire Bolt, Frostfire Bolt, Frostfire Bolt, Frostfire Bolt, Frostfire Bolt … with additional Pyroblasts mixed in when Hot Streak procs.
Channeled spells have 100% of their mana cost deducted from your pool the instant you cast them, and you do not get refunded if you stop it early or if damage shortens the time remaining. So you might as well finish letting the Blizzard roll, unless you have a pressing need to move immediately.
I also had a good laugh outside of dungeons yesterday. Somebody in my mage’s guild had just discovered the Glyph of Penguin, and that reminded me that I have that glyph. So I thought it would be funny to find a penguin near the Argent Tournament grounds and polymorph it into … a different kind of penguin.
What was so funny was that, once the Polymorph wore off, the angry penguin came after me. I wasn’t expecting that; since critters have so few HPs, I don’t think I’ve ever done anything to a critter — other than an emote — that didn’t kill it with one shot. I mean, a lvl 1 toon can 1-shot a freakin’ cow. I didn’t even realize that polymorphing the penguin put me “in combat” with it until the initial amusement wore off and I tried to mount up. When I couldn’t mount up I just ran back toward the tournament grounds, figuring I’d mount up once the Polymorph wore off. It wore off, but I saw I was still “in combat”, so I stopped and turned around, and there was that silly penguin hauling ass after me I didn’t get into actual combat with it, though, because by that time I’d covered enough distance that it leashed back before it got to me. I should have stuck around to watch it attacking me (though I guess it would have just killed itself on my Molten Armor, so I guess running away from it was the humane thing to do )
Blink on the first one, Iceblock the second(cancel the block immediately), Every Man for Himself(if your mage is human that is) the third, and you might just have Blink up for the fourth.
But yes, that fight is silly with the gear levels these days, you spend more time stunned than you spend pew-pewing.
My mage is draenei, and last time in there she was able to Blink out of all four fears. My pally is human, though, so can only Every Man for Himself out of one of them. I suppose I should try some of my other pally abilities to see if any of them work. I don’t suppose I can bubble out of it…
Going to pick up an Arms duel spec. How does this work with eq? Would I just grab a decent 2 handed sword and skill up with it and grab other bits of kit as they drop, or do I need to buy a full alt kit from the get go?
Hi Q we are having issues with our guild bank now being full of stuff that isn’t being used so we’re letting someone’s alt to have it all for a gold donation as they want to level up enchanting. I think any mats can be useful and will be used - lots of cloth for bandages, ore for blacksmithing or jewelcrafting, potions and so on but gear tends to be ignored.
If you’re a Fury, that will get you started. The basic stat needs are the same. The secondary stat needs are wildly different, though (think ArP vs Haste and so forth). If you’re Prot, that will take you almost nowwhere. You can still do heroics for more gear and you’ll probably do something like 2000DPS.
Arms these days is mroe fo a specialty build in PvE. It’s still strong in PvP. but against bosses and so forth it runs out of cooldowns quickly, deals little damage, and isn’t in the sam zipcode as Fury.
Okay, that was weird. The RDF put my mage in Heroic FoS. I thought you couldn’t do the heroic versions of the ICC 5-mans until you’d done the normal versions. Or is that just the raids, and I misunderstood? Because I had been deliberately not taking the quest in Dal until I’d geared up a bit more, specifically so that the RDF wouldn’t put my mage in ICC.
I think that it’s just that you can’t do PoS until you do FoS, and you can’t do HoR until you’ve done PoS. It doesn’t matter if you’ve done them in heroic or not.
I was in Maraudon, trying to finish the Legends of Maraudon quest when I realized a lot of BDL members were going offline and all the enemies in the dungeon disappeared, and when I tried to exit the game, nothing happened. So ctrl-alt-del it was.
When I restarted the game, the loading screen was Maraudon, but it started me in Hammerfall. And the map still had me on Kalimdor.
And that’s when I decided I had had enough for tonight, lol.
I currently have Wolkie in the Wetlands (west of Methendril Harbor) and we’ve already killed/skinned to level 145, but don’t know where to go from here to get to 175.
