There is, IIRC, a cloth hand-in NPC outside Booty Bay that works just like the main-faction cloth quartermasters.
Ahh. In any case I don’t tend to run short of runes very often (I tend to go 3 diseases, death strike, death coil, another blood strike, another death strike, then usually whatever I’m hitting is already dead).
I’m mainly thinking of battles with big elite dudes on multi-player quests that I nonetheless insist on soloing, in which case death strike much as I love it (see above rotation) just can’t keep up - feels like a 20% heal panic button could come in handy in such cases. Sort of like Last Stand only without the timer running out. I might split the difference, skip the heal-after-killing thing and just grab the rune tap +3, 5% crit, and a spare point into either bladed armor or morbidity depending on how I’m feeling that day.
I’ve never tried it, since that kind of grinding just doesn’t interest me, but you do appear to be correct:
You can do the cloth turnin, but it’ll ruin your Bloodsail rep if you’re aiming for the titles. In that case, you can do the Free Knot! and Ogre Suit quests in Dire Maul North for 500 goblin rep a run.
Now I have it up to 28%…is 35-40% attainable?
That’s awesome Yeti. I’ve never played a pally but I’ve had crit up to about 40% on my hunter. Also, I’m not sure if you know, but your crit will go down relative to your current gear as you approach 80, so I wouldn’t worry too much about numbers right now. I’m not saying not to work on a crit build but just make sure you know that, to maintain your current crit% you have at 73, you’ll need much higher stat gear at 80.
Your various ratings (hit, crit, dodge, etc.) give less advantage per point the higher your level. For example at 70 hit cap (+16%) was 202 (for casters without hit talents) at 80 its 442.
Anyone going to go for the “the Insane” achievement?
For all you pirate-y folk, in the new patch apparently a rare parrot will be able to be tamed. Same parrot noises, bird of prey skills. See Here. I may just get it when (if ) I get that high.
I encountered some cool player behavior last night; it wasn’t the first time I’ve seen it, and in fact I’ve done it myself a couple times. You know that pain-in-the-ass Protect the Defias Traitor While He Shows You Where the Hideout Is quest in Westfall? I was doing that with my level-19 rogue last night, and a lvl 54 draenei (can’t remember her class) spotted me and without my even asking just trotted along ahead of me and whacked all the Defias goons along the route.
I just think that’s pretty cool. It’s like everybody who’s ever done that quest knows what a PITA it is, and how difficult it is to do solo when you’re lvl 18-19 (and we all probably wonder why this Defias Idiot doesn’t know how easy it would be to go around the back of the buildings instead of running right down Main Street Moonbrook), so if they have a high-level character in the vicinity and spot a lowbie doing the quest, they just jump in and help out. I’ve done it twice when I was in the area with my higher-level paladin, and now I’ve been helped the same way twice while doing the quest with low-level characters.
Once I’d finished the quest and thanked the assisting player, I headed back to Sentinel Hill. Along the way I spotted a lvl 14 warrior fighting a lvl 17 gnoll. I got there just before the warrior finished off the gnoll, and seeing the warrior’s HPs were down to about half, I stopped and bandaged him up before continuing on my way.
I don’t know how it is on other servers, but Lightbringer seems to have a really good population of helpful people.
Oh, and my pally: Level 56, 850g! It looks like she’s gonna hit 1000g before lvl 60 I’m making a second attempt at auctioning Wirt’s Third Leg. The first time, there was one other person with one of those on the AH, asking 155g, so Auctioneer undercut his price and posted mine for 151g. Didn’t sell, so I put it up again with a BO of 100g. Frankly, I don’t think the thing has the stats to justify that price, but people seem to be willing to pay through the nose for blue items, judging by what I’ve seen on the AH. I also found some blue shoulders, which Auctioneer thought were worth 117g, but those also didn’t sell at that price so I’ve reduced those as well.
My pally also picked up the “Got My Mind On My Money” (Loot 100 gold) achievement the other night, which caught me completely by surprise. I didn’t think I was anywhere close to that.
I have no idea what its stats are, but if I had the money to burn I’d totally buy out Wirt’s Third Leg just for the name.
Plus access to the secret cow zone.
I’ve done that, too. I try not to interfere in someone’s battles unless they’re about to die (some people get quite grumpy about that: “I HAD IT HANDLED!”), but I’ll frequently buff or heal random people, and if I’m wandering around with my priest and see someone get killed, I’ll usually rez them.
Gotta be careful with the healing, though. I stopped and healed one guy that was fighting two mobs. Turned out he had very low threat with one of them and it attacked me.
With the buffing, I’m trying to get a “random acts of kindness” thing going. Frequently, my mage will toss Arcane Intellect on people in the area and end up getting back buffs from pallies and priests.
Before there was a portal to Caverns of Time I’d often see people escorting the mechanical chicken to to northeastern port in Tanaris and I’d stop and help them with the mobs there. Same thing with the sister quest in the Hinterlands when I used to go there to farm herbs for pots for Molten Core raids. I also remember being helped out quite a bit in STV back when that zone was a real bitch, by both my faction and the opposing faction.
Yeah, I’m constantly getting hit with Power Word: Fortitude from priests and Arcane Intellect from Mages. So my pally’s always handing out Blessing of Might and Blessing of Wisdom (the other day I encountered a hunter, so I hit him with BoW and tagged his pet with BoM)
DPS, my friend. BoM on both of them will do a lot more than BoW, as Hunters never lack for mana. And since BoM was changed to enhance ranged damage as well as melee, BoK isn’t even as good for Hunters any more.
Not that a free buff of any sort is unwelcome, of course. I’ve buffed people who were camping out an area I needed for a quest. “Son of a crap! …Well, whatever. cast” The faster they get their quests filled, the faster I can start working the area.
Huh, I didn’t realize that. My own hunter seems to suffer mana deficiencies far more often than he needs to do more damage. I figure that if nothing else, boosting a hunter’s mana regen will allow the hunter to keep using Aspect of the Hawk (or whatever Aspect he prefers) without having to switch to Aspect of the Viper (with its 50% damage reduction) so soon.
That’s been my experience as well Mister Rik, after just recently transferring my 70 hunter and playing him again after a long hiatus. Seems like I can go through a few mobs, switch to Viper for the next mob, switch back to Hawk then repeat.
Hey gang!
I have some questions on professions.
I have a BM Hunter lvl 80, and play primarily solo PVE. I’ve been happy having Herbalism and Skinning as my professions while leveling, but now I’m looking to switch them out for something more useful. My understanding is that the professions each offer different perks (like BoP equipment), but I’m having difficulty assessing which will be best for my hunter.
What are your recommendations? I plan on leveling some crafter alts, so I’m not concerned about money, mats, or producing useful items for other characters as far as my main goes. I just want suggestions as to which professions will be most useful to my hunter “in the field”.
Hmm. In trying to argue for BoM, I think I just argued myself into acknowledging BoW’s usefulness.
Rationale: My Hunter is level 40 right now, so figure a level 40 Paladin with Improved BoW comes along. At that level, Improved BoW would give 30 MP5 and regular BoM would give 85 AP. If I understand how AP works, BoM gives an additional 6 DPS or 30 DP5, plus increases Arcane Shot’s damage by 12-13. Arcane Shot is 77 mana for me right now with a 6 second cooldown. By the time it’s cooled down and I’m ready to fire again, I’ve gotten 30 of that mana back. Certainly not enough to cover the cost of the attack, but it does soften the cost quite a bit. Around that level, HP is about 1000, give or take, so an additional 6 DPS isn’t going to make a lot of difference.
So, hey, whatever works.
It seems to me that the BoP stuff has been flattened at level 80 to the point that all offer the same bonus - an Attack Power, Spell Power or Stamina buff that’s better than the “standard”, but each applies to a different item. There’s some BoP in the 60 range that’s useful on a per-class basis, but not at 80.
Engineering has some neat BoP stuff that might make it worth picking up, but a lot of that stuff is novelties.
I am struggling to find much enjoyment questing in STV, the quest actions are Ok (though it is too easy to pull extra mobs) but the rewards are rubbish. Not one useable item yet. Nice jungle though.
