World's oldest dog dies

Bobi. 31 years old (which apparently is 217 in dog years.)
That’s a good old age !

RIP Bobi

Impossible, they are immediately replaced by the world’s oldest dog.

Well done Bobi! Hope it was a great 31 years!

I had a 23 yo. Rat Terrier. Smaller dogs live longer more often than bigger dogs. Bobi is a real marvel.
I hope dog heaven has lots of smells and squirrels for his pleasure.

Sorry to be that guy, but Cecil had a column (June 13, 1986 — can’t link on my phone) that lays out the formula for dog years. Bobi would really be 141-ish YO, which is still nothing to shake a stick at.

NO! Don’t post that! I don’t need to be crying for the next 6 hours!

So it’s not just me with a little dust in his eye. I hope Cranky Dog makes it to be 2/3 as old as this dog.

If you haven’t already seen it, go to theoatmeal.com and read My Dog: The Paradox, then reach for the Kleenex.

I know, that really surprised me. When I first heard about Bobi about a year ago, I expected to see a tiny 10-20 pound dog, at most. Looking at his pictures, he’s gotta be around 80 lbs or so. He’s about as big as my pittie, and the breed specs for Rafeiro do Alentejo males put them at 80-100 lbs. Incredible. I was shocked to hear a dog be anywhere near 30, much less one that size.

Of course it is, but then you throw the stick for the dog to fetch. :wood: :dog2:

I once met two elderly gentlemen who shared a house. The one guy had a tiny dog he was carrying. I asked them how old the dog was, and the guy carrying the dog told me he was 30. I smiled and said that was great.

When the guy took his dog over to the weeds to pee, the other guy thanked me for not saying anything about the dog’s age. The two men had been sharing a house for around 30 years and had owned three little dogs during that time, one after the other. His friend’s memories of their dogs had blurred into one.

Doubting vets try to spoil a good story.

Actually, by the formula I use for dog/cat lifespans, 31 years equals about 140 years. More plausible than 217 years, but still…
