Worried about your retirement? Play Powerball!

In his column in the November issue of Scientific American, Michael Shermer cites the interesting statistic that if you drive ten miles to buy a Powerball ticket, you are sixteen times more likely to die in a car accident than you are to win the lottery.

Moral of the story: if you’re worried that you don’t have enough money for your retirement, drive to the next state to get a Powerball ticket. You might win the lottery, or, more likely, you’ll die–either way you don’t have to worry about money anymore.

Alternate moral: If you have to go out of your way to get lottery tickets, be sure to buy at least 16 times x divided by 10 lottery tickets, where x is the number of miles you drove.

You can, of course, turn this into a win-win situation by sending your mother-in-law out to get the Powerball tickets.

Rather than go through the hassle of transfering this to MPSIMS, I’ll just ask all of you:
How far have you traveled to get Powerball tickets, and does the prize amount have a bearing on the distance you are willing to travel?

Durn it, I’ve had the worst luck with picking forums lately. :frowning: Sorry, Czarcasm.
