Worshipping the Lesser God

Reading through the discussion made me think about how people justify compromise when faced with systems they don’t fully agree with. I see the idea of a “lesser god” as a metaphor for settling for whatever feels manageable rather than what’s ideal. I relate to that tension, because I’ve had moments where practicality won over conviction even when I wasn’t fully comfortable with the trade-off.

Perhaps worshipping an ultimate God gives “answers” we don’t even have questions for yet…or maybe it stops people from asking pesky questions in the first place?

Good point.

It’s the obverse of the idea of “god in the gaps”. When there are no gaps because everything is god and god is everything, then any questioning is pointless. Or at least highly socially discouraged.
